On Friday night, the Atlanta Braves will open up a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in California.

The Braves are coming off a series where they lost two out of three against the Seattle Mariners.

Earlier in the week, the Braves announced that they had designated Jose Azócar for assignment.

The Braves wrote (via X) on May 6: “The #Braves today selected INF Jim Jarvis to the major league roster and designated OF José Azócar for assignment.”

After clearing waivers, Azócar has elected free agency.

680 The Fan wrote: “Braves today outrighted OF José Azócar to Triple-A Gwinnett, and he elected free agency.”

While Azócar could still return to the Braves, he will now have the option to sign with any organization in the MLB.

The 29-year-old has one stolen base in two games this season.

Azócar played three seasons for the San Diego Padres at the start of his MLB career.

As a rookie, he batted .257 with 52 hits, ten RBI’s, 24 runs and five stolen bases in 98 games.

In 2025, Azócar spent time with the New York Mets (and Braves).

Over 230 career games, Azócar is batting .243 with 94 hits, two home runs, 22 RBI’s, 58 runs and 20 stolen bases.

It will be interesting to see if the Braves end up bringing him back on a minor league deal.

SNY Mets wrote (on August 7, 2025): “José Azócar is up to 3 RBI with a solo home run and a two-run double through four innings for Triple-A Syracuse!”

The Braves are off to an incredible start after missing the 2025 MLB playoffs.

They are the first-place team in the National League East with a 26-12 record in 38 games.

On the road, the Braves have gone 14-6 in the 20 games they have played away from Truist Park in Georgia.

Following three games with the Dodgers, they will return home to host the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
