As the Atlanta Braves are taking on the Miami Marlins in a three-game set, which will conclude on Thursday, a player who was etched into the organization’s rich history has officially become a free agent.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels announced that Jorge Soler has been released from the organization, so if the Braves ‘so please’, they could sign the 2021 World Series MVP in a reunion deal (for a third stint).

After the MLB trade deadline, Jorge Soler was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels. On Thursday, according to MLB.com’s transactions tracker, Jorge Soler has officially been released:
“Los Angeles Angels released DH Jorge Soler.”
On top of being named World Series MVP with the Braves in 2021, Jorge Soler also enjoyed a lot of success with the Atlanta Braves in two stints. Soler struggled with the Los Angeles Angels this season, which is what led to the release, but he still has a lot of pop in his bat. Soler’s game just comes with a lot of strikeouts, which teams are obviously concerned about.
This season with the Los Angeles Angels, Soler batted .203 with 12 HRs, 49 RBI, and 64 hits across 316 at-bats. On top of those semi-positive offensive stats, Soler has struck out 118 times.
It would be a hilarious turn of events if the Braves decided to bring back Jorge Soler, because if you remember correctly, MLB’s most infamous ‘brawl’ this season came early in the season when Jorge Soler charged Braves pitchers Reynaldo Lopez, and Atlanta’s manager Walt Weiss tackled Soler to get him on the ground.

Looking at Jorge Soler’s Tenure with the Braves

Across 20 at-bats in the 2021 World Series against the Houston Astros, Jorge Soler hit three home runs, drove in six runs, and scored four runs, which led to him being named WS MVP.
During two different stints with the Atlanta Braves, Soler played a total of 104 games with 24 home runs, 23 doubles, and an OPS+ of 132.
Although it’s a smaller sample size than some of his other tenures with other MLB clubs, that OPS+ of 132 is by far a career-best for Soler with a single team. His career OPS+ is 110, and Soler has clubbed 215 home runs, 225 doubles, and driven in 599 runs across 13 seasons and 1180 games played.
