Former Boston Red Sox star speaks out about his time with the team prior to the Red Sox first game against the San Francisco Giants.

The Boston Red Sox are beginning a new series against the San Francisco Giants. Part of that series involves facing an old friend, Rafael Devers.

At 7:10 PM Eastern, 5:10 PM Mountain Time, the Red Sox and Giants will clash for the first time during this three-game MLB series.

Elsewhere in the baseball world, the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays will play a series for the final time this year. The Blue Jays are a team to watch as they have been catching fire lately.

Before the first pitch was thrown in this new series, Devers spoke to the media.

MLB reporter Chris Cotillo first revealed Devers’ simple answer to one question about his time in Boston.

“Rafael Devers said ‘no’ when asked if he had any regrets about things ended in Boston. He said he’s unsure about what the reception will be tonight,” Cotillo wrote in a social media post earlier on August 21st.

Additionally, when it comes to Devers’ legacy with the Red Sox, Devers shared this message.

“I really don’t know, but what I’d like to say is that I play baseball the right way. I play very hard. I always give 100% for the team,” Devers said via Cotillo.

Devers is a 29-year-old first baseman who was traded to the Giants during the 2025 season.

In the 2026 season, he has enjoyed some success on his new team. Devers has recorded 25 home runs, 117 hits, to go along with 69 RBIs, and a .244 batting average.

So far this season, he has started 89 games at first base.

It would take a collapse of epic proportions for the Red Sox to fall out of a playoff position.

But that doesn’t mean that Boston should take the Giants lightly.

If anything, they need to have an even bigger killer instinct as they go toe-to-toe with the National League-team. The Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 games. They are well outside of the playoff picture, and are not even a factor when it comes to the Wild Card.

But, that is what can make them be the best spoilers. They have nothing to lose, so the Red Sox need to be on the lookout for that.
