Chicago Cubs Acquire 2-Year MLB Player Before Reds Game

On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs concluded their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs won by a score of 8-4 to sweep the three-game series.

Michael Busch led the team with two hits and four RBI’s (on Sunday).

After Sunday’s game, news came out that the Cubs had claimed Luis Peralta off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network wrote: “#Cubs today claimed LHP Luis Peralta off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.”

Peralta did not play in a game for St. Louis.

He was designated for assignment soon after being claimed.

Peralta’s MLB Career

Peralta has appeared in 37 games across two seasons for the Colorado Rockies.

He is coming off a season where he went 1-3 with a 9.47 ERA in 22 games.

The 25-year-old has yet to pitch in an MLB game this season (but has appeared in six Triple-A games).

Cubs After Sweeping D-Backs

The Cubs are having an excellent start to the 2026 season.

They are at the top of the National League Central with a 22-12 record in 34 games.

At home, the Cubs are 14-5 in 19 games at Wrigley Field.

Following a four-game series with the Reds, the Cubs will head on the road to visit the Texas Rangers on Friday.

The MLB wrote: “The Chicago @Cubs : -Complete the sweep -Have won five straight games -Have won 15 of their last 18 overall”

The Cubs are looking to return to the World Series for the first time since 2016.

They are coming off a year where they lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS.
