Before Monday’s game, the Cubs announced that they had made a roster move by calling up Javier Assad from Triple-A.
Marquee Sports Network wrote: “Matthew Boyd has been placed on the 15-day IL.
Javier Assad will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa and is expected to start in Tuesday’s game.”
Assad’s Background
Assad is coming off a season where he went 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight games.
The 28-year-old has spent all four seasons of his MLB career playing for Chicago.

Assad has gone 18-12 with a 3.43 ERA in 78 career games.
He has shown promise to be a reliable pitcher.

The Cubs are 4-6 in their first ten games of the 2026 season, which has them at the bottom of the National League Central.

Following their series with the Rays, the Cubs will return home to host the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 10.
The Cubs are coming off a strong season where they went 92-70.

The Rays are currently 5-5 in their first ten games, which has them as the second-place team in the American League East.
After the Cubs, they will play their next series against the New York Yankees (on Friday night).
