The Tigers continue to play without Javier Báez (who has been out since April 28).
Ahead of their series with the Mets, the Tigers announced the latest on Báez (h/t Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic).
The Tigers wrote (via their medical update): “Javy Báez (right ankle sprain) initiated a hitting progression this week. He is also completing rehab daily.”
Báez had been batting .256 with 20 hits, two home runs, six RBI’s, ten runs and one stolen base in his first 24 games of the 2026 season.
He is in his fifth season playing for the Tigers.
Last year, Báez made his third MLB All-Star Game.
Whenever he comes back to action, the Tigers will be getting a huge boost to their lineup.
Tigers PR wrote (on April 29): “The Tigers today placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list with a right adductor strain and placed INF Javier Báez on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain. LHP Enmanuel DeJesus and INF Jace Jung have been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.”
Báez was the ninth pick in the 2011 MLB Draft.
He had spent the first seven and a half seasons of his career with the Chicago Cubs.
In 2016, Báez helped lead the franchise to the 2016 World Series Championship.
Following the Cubs, he had a brief stint with the Mets in 2021.
