Casey Mize: Everything you need to know

The Tigers reinstated Mize (adductor) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Astros in Houston. Mize had been slated to return from the IL this past Sunday, but after their series finale in Cleveland was postponed, the Tigers opted to delay his activation a few more days. The right-hander will be taking the hill Wednesday for his first outing with the big club since May 27 and could be operating with a slight workload restriction after covering five innings and tossing 55 pitches in his lone minor-league rehab start last Tuesday. Prior to hitting the shelf due to right adductor inflammation, Mize went 2-3 and posted a 2.27 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 47.2 innings in his nine starts with Detroit.

MIze (adductor) won't be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Guardians after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland. The two teams will make up the game as part of a split doubleheader Sept. 4. After making a five-inning rehab start with Single-A Lakeland earlier in the week, Mize had been slated to make his first appearance for Detroit since May 27 in the series finale in Cleveland. Due to the postponement, however, the Tigers will elect to push Mize's turn in the rotation back three days, with the right-hander now scheduled to be activated from the IL to start Wednesday's series finale in Houston, per Jason Beck of MLB.com.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed Friday that Mize (adductor) will rejoin the rotation with a start Sunday in Cleveland, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Mize has been out since late May with right adductor inflammation, but he's ready to roll after tossing five frames of one-run ball with five strikeouts in his lone rehab start with Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday. He threw 55 pitches Tuesday and hasn't had a full workload in three weeks, so Mize might not pitch deep into Sunday's contest.
