Before Wednesday’s game, Carlos Mendoza announced that the team had made a notable decision for their upcoming stretch of games.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote: “The Mets will not move to a six-man rotation this week, as they had previously indicated they might. Carlos Mendoza said he’s happy with where his top five starters are at, so Sean Manaea will remain in the bullpen for now.”
Manaea has a 1.80 ERA in his first two games of the 2026 season.

Manaea was the 34th pick in the 2013 MLB Draft.
He spent the first six years of his career playing for the Athletics.
The 34-year-old then had quick stints with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
Manaea is in his third season playing for New York.
He is coming off a year where he went 2-4 with a 5.64 ERA in 15 games (12 were starts).
