Manaea (1-2) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings. Manaea was deployed in a traditional starting role for the first time this season after working behind an opener his last two times out and as a long reliever prior to that. The southpaw gave up one run in each of the second and fourth frames, but that was the extent of the damage Atlanta managed against him. Manaea was tagged with the loss, however, since New York managed just one run of offense against five Atlanta hurlers. Still, this was a promising outing for Manaea, who completed six frames for the first time since the 2024 campaign. Given this performance, it seems likely he'll continue to be rolled out as a starter, though he's lined up for a tough matchup on the road against the Phillies his next time out.

Sean Manaea: Breaking News
Earns first win in bulk relief
Manaea (1-1) earned the win Sunday against San Diego. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings of bulk relief. Entering after an inning from opener Huascar Brazoban, Manaea was generally able to stay out of trouble, except for a two-run homer surrendered to Freddy Fermin in the fifth inning. The southpaw logged 66 pitches (39 strikes) in what was his second appearance since joining the New York rotation after operating exclusively as a reliever to open the season. Over his past seven outings, Manaea owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 21 innings. The 34-year-old is tentatively slated to next take the ball Friday against Atlanta and could once again operate behind an opener.
Set for bulk-relief appearance
Manaea is expected to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Huascar Brazoban in Sunday's game against the Padres, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Though he's continuing to pitch out of the bullpen, Manaea will be making his second straight turn as the fifth member of the New York rotation after recently replacing David Peterson in that role. While working behind opener Austin Warren in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners, Manaea covered a season-high five innings and struck out four batters while limiting Seattle to one earned run on one hit and one walk. The veteran southpaw has looked sharp overall in his last five appearances, compiling a 2.70 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB over 16.2 innings.
