Aaron Boone Makes Honest Statement After New York Yankees Lose To Athletics

On Thursday afternoon, the New York Yankees hosted the Athletics for the finale of their three-game series in the Bronx.

The Yankees lost by a score of 1-0 (and lost the series 2-1).

Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote: “The A’s shut out the Yankees, 1-0. The Yankees failed to score in their last 17 innings against the A’s.”

After Thursday’s loss, manager Aaron Boone made an honest statement when he met with the media (h/t SNY’s Yankees Videos).

Boone: “We got shut down today… Today was a day we got beat. We just didn’t generate much, we didn’t hit a lot of balls on the screws at all… We’ll get this thing going. We got a few guys, obviously, struggling to get on track a little bit.”

The Yankees had been coming off a 3-2 loss on Wednesday.

They only recorded one hit during Thursday’s loss.

Sarah Langs of MLB.com wrote: “the A’s first 1-0 win over the Yankees since April 25, 1979

Looking Ahead For New York

With their loss to the Athletics, the Yankees dropped to 8-4 in their first 12 games, which still as them at the top of the American League East.

They will now head to Florida for a series with the Tampa Bay Rays that starts on Friday night.

On the road, the Yankees have gone 5-1 in six games outside of the Bronx.

Looking Ahead For The Athletics

With their last two wins over New York, the Athletics improved to 5-7 in their first 12 games, which has them as the fourth-place team in the American League West.

They will now visit the New York Mets on Friday at Citi Field.

On the road, the Athletics have gone 3-6 in nine games away from Sacramento.

The Athletics last made the MLB playoffs in 2020.
