On Saturday night, the Tampa Bay Rays will continue their series with the San Francisco Giants (in Florida).
The Rays are coming off a 3-0 win on Friday.
UPDATE: The Rays won by a score of 5-1.
Tampa Bay Rays Announce Roster Move

Ahead of Saturday’s game, the Rays announced that they had designated Yoendrys Gómez for assignment.
Rays Communications wrote: “The Tampa Bay Rays have reinstated LHP Garrett Cleavinger (right calf tightness) from the 15-day IL. To make room on the active roster, RHP Yoendrys Gómez has been designated for assignment.”
Gómez has a 6.23 ERA in nine games for the Rays this season.
He had been in the middle of his first season with the franchise.
Gómez’s MLB Career

Gómez had spent the first two and a half seasons of his career with the New York Yankees.
In that span, the 26-year-old went 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 12 games.
Last year, Gómez was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankees wrote (via X) on April 25, 2025: “Earlier today, RHP Yoendrys Gómez was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers.”

After a quick stop in Los Angeles, Gómez then finished last year with the Chicago White Sox.
Over 36 career games, he has gone 3-3 with a 5.11 ERA.
It will be interesting to see if he ends up in Triple-A (or elects free agency).
At his age, Gómez could be an intriguing option for other bullpens around baseball.
Bryan Hoch of MLB.com had written (on March 17, 2025): “Yoendrys Gomez has thrown nine scoreless innings this spring. His velocity is up & he’s throwing strikes. Aaron Boone stopped short of guaranteeing him a roster spot but said the team is “excited about the steps YoGo has made.””
Rays And Yankees Right Now

The Rays come into Saturday as the second-place team in the American League East with a 19-12 record in 31 games.
They are just 1.5 games back of the Yankees (who are in first with a 21-11 record).
Earlier this season, the Rays swept the Yankees in Tampa Bay.
