Could Yankees GM Brian Cashman trade Jasson Dominguez?

The New York Yankees are undoubtedly a team to keep a close eye on during the 2026 season. The Yankees are once again entering the campaign with a strong looking roster on paper. However, they will be looking to have more success in the playoffs this time around.

The Yankees made some notable moves during the offseason. Their biggest move was re-signing star slugger Cody Bellinger to a five-year, $162.5 million contract. They also brought back multiple players like Trent Grisham, Paul Goldschmidt, Ryan Yarbrough, Amed Rosario, and Paul Blackburn.

With this, the Yankees certainly have a similar group compared to last season. While this is the case, it has the potential to change between now and the 2026 MLB trade deadline. It is clear that the Yankees should be looking to upgrade their roster as they look to win their first World Series championship since 2009.

Due to this, one of their former top prospects is creating chatter as a trade candidate to watch with the regular season almost here.

Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez Named Among MLB’s Top Trade Candidates to Watch

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Joel Reuter took a look at seven MLB trade candidates who could use a fresh start. Among the players discussed was Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez.

“With Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham both re-signing this offseason alongside Aaron Judge, the Yankees do not have a clear path to playing time for Jasson Domínguez entering the 2026 season,” Reuter wrote. “He was relegated to the bench over the final month of the season and into October.

With Dominguez once being the Yankees’ top prospect and still being just 23 years old, it would be notable if the American League East club traded him. However, with the Yankees’ outfield depth being so strong, he also would have the potential to be a very good trade chip for them to dangle to improve their roster elsewhere.

Dominguez played in a career-high 128 games this past season for the Yankees, where he had 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, a .257 batting average, and 23 stolen bases. Overall, the 5-foot-9 outfielder showed promise during his first full season with the Yankees, so it is likely that multiple teams would love to acquire him.

Yankees Trading Dominguez Would Come With Some Risk

While Dominguez is standing out as a prime trade candidate, the Yankees trading him would come with some real risk. The potential for Dominguez to hit a new level and become a high-impact player is certainly there. Because of this, the Yankees would need to make sure that they got a good return if they elected to trade him.

If the Yankees were to trade Dominguez and he became an All-Star player, it would undoubtedly sting. As a result, the Yankees will need to consider all of their options carefully when it comes to the young outfielder.

Nevertheless, it is going to be very interesting to see what happens between the Yankees and Dominguez from here. Multiple teams could enter the sweepstakes for his services due to his good upside.
