The New York Yankees are riding an eight-game winning streak and will look to sweep the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon. Perhaps the biggest strength of this current Yankees team is its starting pitching. New York has received amazing contributions from Cam Schlittler, Will Warren, and even Luis Gil.
However, the starting rotation is going to tighten up soon when Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon finish their rehab assignments.
Before the Astros series finale, Aaron Boone provided an update on both Cole and Rodon’s rehab stints.

Aaron Boone Gives Updates on Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon

GettyThe New York Yankees shared an injury update on Carlos Rodon.
Per Yankees reporter Gary Phillips, “Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are expected to make their next rehab starts at Double-A Somerset, Aaron Boone said.”
On April 22, Aaron Boone made an appearance on FoulTerritoryTV and said that Carlos Rodon is a little bit ahead of Gerrit Cole in his rehab assignment:
Both Rodon and Cole are moving up in their minor league tour.
It’s funny because the Yankees actually announced the Gerrit Cole rehab assignment on April 23:
“Today, the Yankees transferred the rehab assignment of RHP Gerrit Cole from Double-A Somerset to High-A Hudson Valley.”
It’s a ‘demotion’ announcement, but really, Gerrit Cole just needed to be reassigned to High-A to make his rehab start. He last pitched on April 23, and went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. He threw 42 of 52 pitches for strikes, demonstrating sharp command in his continued recovery, and is expected to require more starts before returning to the Yankees.

Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon will likely return in the coming months.
Aaron Boone hasn’t been super specific on the exact return date, but if all things go well at Double-A, then both Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon will likely get one or two more starts at Triple-A before being reinstated.
Once Gerrit Cole gets close to returning, it will be one of the biggest storylines for the Yankees. After undergoing Tommy John Surgery more than a year ago, he appears to be fully healthy and ready to pitch again in Pinstripes.
