The New York Yankees are taking on the Boston Red Sox in a series with AL East implications. New York took game one, and will look to keep the winning ways going on Wednesday. They are 14-9, and currently lead the Red Sox 3-0 in the second inning.

Ex-New York Yankees Outfielder Released by Marlins
Per reports surrounding the Miami Marlins, veteran MLB outfielder Austin Slater was designated for assignment.
MLBTradeRumors.com was quick on the report and believes that the Marlins will activate Esteury Ruiz tomorrow as the corresponding move.
This doesn’t act as an outright release, but it likely will be once Slater elects free agency. Slater played with the New York Yankees in 2025. He received 25 at-bats in pinstripes and hit .160 with two RBI and zero hits of the extra-base variety. The 10-year MLB veteran will either play in the minors or be looking to find a new home. A retirement could also be looming.

Austin Slater’s MLB Career
Austin Slater is a 10-year MLB veteran, but he spent eight seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
Over 711 games, he holds a .235 batting average with 45 career home runs.
Since playing with the Giants, Austin Slater has played with five other MLB teams. He certainly isn’t the best bat, but Slater has turned in a solid career to this point.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Slater past this roster move.

“It wasn’t a great showing for the 33-year-old Slater. He played in 12 games and collected just four hits, all of them singles. He took four walks but struck out nine times in 28 plate appearances. Slater has pinch hit a few times but hasn’t been in Clayton McCullough’s starting lineup since April 12. Heritberto Hernandez gets some work as a righty-hitting left fielder. Utilityman Javier Sanoja can also play out there.”
