Phillies Announce Roster Move Before Cubs Game

Before Tuesday’s game, the Phillies announced that they had made a roster move.
The Phillies wrote (via X): “Prior to tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs, the Phillies recalled RHP Alan Rangel from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room on the 26-man roster, RHP Seth Johnson was optioned to Lehigh Valley.”
Rangel’s Career

Rangel is in his second season with the Phillies.
He finished last year with a 2.45 ERA in five games.
Cory Nidoh of Philly Sports Network wrote: “Alan Rangel has a 1.66 ERA in four starts this season with Lehigh Valley. That is the 4th-best ERA in the International League.”
Johnson’s Career

Johnson is in his third MLB season (all with the Phillies).
Over 14 career games, he has gone 1-2 with an 8.68 ERA.
Jeff Kerr of 97.3 ESPN FM wrote: “That was also the last minor league option remaining for Seth Johnson.”
Phillies Right Now

The Phillies have one of the most notable rosters in the National League with Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.
That said, they have gotten off to a very tough start to the 2026 MLB season.
Right now, the Phillies are 8-14 in 22 games, which has them as the fourth-place team in the National League East.
Underdog MLB shared their lineup for Tuesday’s game: “Phillies 4/21 T. Turner SS K. Schwarber DH B. Harper 1B F. Reyes LF A. García RF J. Realmuto C A. Bohm 3B B. Marsh CF E. Sosa 2B J. Luzardo SP”

On the road, the Phillies are 3-4 in seven games.
Following their series with the Cubs, they will head to Atlanta to play the Braves.
The Braves recently swept the Phillies in Philadelphia over the weekend.
