Toronto Blue Jays fans, remember the services of LHP Tim Mayza?
He has just inked a new deal with his new team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Per president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, the team is signing left-handed reliever Tim Mayza to a one-year deal.
Mayza, 34, spent the 2026 season with the Phillies. The nine-year MLB veteran arm spent the first seven seasons of his career in Toronto.

Ex-Blue Jays Pitcher Tim Mayza Inks New Pact with Phillies

After seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Tim Mayza has bounced around a couple of teams.
In 2026, he turned in a solid campaign for Philadelphia, posting an ERA of 3.48 over 67.1 IP (career high). He also struck out 64 batters this season.
Before his year+ (and what will be at least two-year) stint with the Phillies, Mayza had brief stints with the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates after his 7-year stint with the Jays.
Across 283.2 IP with the Jays, Mayza turned in a 3.87 ERA with 292 strikeouts.
From 2018 to 2024, Mayza was a viable reliever and had several years turning in 40+ inning campaigns, and his ERA (for the most part) was steadily sub-4.00, which, for a pitcher like Mayza, who has tended to only thrive against lefty batters, is impressive.
In 2026, his righty-lefty splits were pretty even, which made this re-signing a no-brainer for Philadelphia.

Tim Mayza’s MLB Career Has Been Very Solid
All things considered, after some strong years with the Blue Jays, and a couple of productive campaigns since, Tim Mayza has shaped up a pretty strong MLB career.
Over 442 total appearances and 385+ innings, his ERA rests at 3.80 with 383 strikeouts and a FIP of 3.63.
His career WHIP of 1.258 is also strong for a reliever like Tim Mayza, who doesn’t necessarily have overpowering stuff, but instead knows how to miss barrels.
Looking towards 2027 and what this means for the Phillies, Mayza is an automatic member of the Phillies’ pen, especially given that he’s left-handed, and it’s a good retention for Dombrowski to start the offseason.
