The Toronto Blue Jays provided a health update for injured infielder Luis Urias, who left Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
Urias hurt himself legging out a double in the top of the fourth inning. After Blue Jays manager John Schneider and the trainer came out to check on him, Urias stayed in the game.
However, he was lifted from the defense heading into the bottom of the fourth inning and replaced in the infield by Josh Smith, who moved to third base, with Ernie Clement taking over from Urias at second base.
John Schneider Provides Update on Luis Urias
According to Schneider, Urias left the game due to right quad discomfort, and he is set to have an MRI on Friday in Philadelphia as the Blue Jays get ready to face the Phillies for a three-game series.
“Luis Urias left Thursday’s Blue Jays game due to right quad discomfort, per John Schneider Urias will get an MRI on Friday in Philadelphia,” Blue Jays reporter Arden Zwelling wrote on X.
The Blue Jays were already down an infielder for Thursday’s game, as star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sat out his second straight game due to hamstring tightness.
The team has dealt with a myriad of injuries this season, so they can ill afford to lose anyone else, especially someone like Urias, who has been a hot bat for them as of late.
Looking at Luis Urias
A nine-year MLB veteran, Urias was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Arizona Diamondbacks in June as the team needed a backup infielder due to all the injuries it has been dealing with this season.
With Toronto, Urias has been hitting very well, as he possesses a strong .803 OPS with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs in limited at-bats.
The Blue Jays have the 30th-ranked offense in all of MLB, so Urias has been a pleasant surprise with the bat as the Blue Jays have needed every run they can score this season.
Hopefully, there is no serious injury for him, and that he can return to the field for Toronto very soon.
