The Golden State Warriors have been involved in quite a few rumors this offseason, but they haven’t managed to make any notable additions to their roster at this stage of the game. While the front office is actively attempting to change that, it has struggled to find a way to upgrade the team around legendary guard Stephen Curry.
It certainly doesn’t help that Golden State doesn’t have much young talent it can lean on, with the only consistent contributor in that department being Brandin Podziemski. As he prepares to enter the final year of his rookie contract, it’s clear that Podziemski is going to need a new deal at some point in the near future, but according to a new report, that could wind up becoming an expensive endeavor for the Warriors.

The Dubs selected Podziemski with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and he has turned himself into a key part of the team’s rotation. He immediately earned a spot on the All-Rookie team, and he has continued to improve with each passing season in the pros, making him an important piece in the puzzle when it comes to Golden State’s future.
The 2025-26 campaign was the best of Podziemski’s young career, as he suited up for all 82 games and averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field. The Warriors would like to see Podziemski become a bit more consistent, but he held his own when having more responsibilities thrown his way last season amid the team’s constant injury woes.
Right now, the front office is focusing on more pressing issues than Podziemski’s contract, but with restricted free agency looming next offseason, it would like to get something done with the talented guard before it’s too late. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, though, Podziemski could ask for up to $24 million per year from Golden State, which could be a bit too expensive for its liking.
“In terms of what a new deal for Podziemski could possibly look like, it is likely that the AAV would be between $22 million and $24 million,” Siegel reported. “While the sweet spot for the Warriors would be a deal somewhere between $15 million and $18 million, Podziemski and his camp would want to exceed this in their asking price due to his contributions as a starter and improved production during the 2025-26 season.”

Right off the bat, it seems like there is a sizable gap between what Podziemski is looking for in his new deal and what the front office would be willing to offer him. We’ve seen several players linger in restricted free agency for months this offseason, and it’s not far-fetched to suggest that Podziemski could find himself in a similar spot at this time next year.
For now, the Warriors are intent on adding to their current roster, rather than extending their own players. Podziemski is certainly deserving of a new deal, but it’s not something the team is in any rush to take care of. It’s still early in these negotiations, but the two sides are far apart, which makes this a situation worth monitoring over the next few months.
