Draymond Green praised Steve Kerr's coaching after the Warriors 2025-26 campaign concluded

The Golden State Warriors‘ slog of a 2025-26 campaign came to an end in the NBA’s Play-In Tournament, as they lost the No. 8 seed game in the Western Conference to the Phoenix Suns. Now, the team will embark on another pivotal offseason that could see franchise legends such as forward Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr be on the move.

While Golden State could ultimately decide to move on from Green, it doesn’t sound like it has any desire to lose Kerr. Instead, Kerr’s future has been thrown up in the air thanks to some cryptic comments he’s made in the wake of the team’s defeat to the Suns. Some have wondered whether Kerr could opt to resign from his post with the Warriors, but amid all the rumors, Green took a moment to provide a testament to his longtime coach’s abilities.

Draymond Green Gushes Over Steve Kerr

The past few seasons have been trying for the Warriors, and that was certainly the case this year as well. With Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler leading the way, Golden State believed it could be a title contender. Instead, Butler tore his ACL in January, and Curry ended up playing in just 43 games thanks to a lingering right knee injury.

The Warriors have been trying to piece things together with Curry and Green after previously moving on from Klay Thompson, but it was another tough year for the sturdy defender. Green suited up for 68 games, averaging 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, but he shot just 41.8% from the field, as he struggled to find a way to make the sort of impact he’s become notorious for throughout his career.

With Curry and Butler missing so much time, Kerr did everything he could to keep this team together, but it wasn’t enough to lead the team to the playoffs. Rumors have emerged suggesting Kerr’s time with the Warriors could come to an end this offseason, but Green went to bat for the legendary coach, as he credited him for keeping the Dubs together all year long.

“There were several times this year where I thought about quitting, and each time, he’d just say the right thing to relight that fire and make you wanna go again,” Green said on “The Draymond Green Show.” “The way you get amazed by Steph Curry’s shots, or the way some is amazed by my defense, is how I get amazed by his coaching when all the money is on the line.”

For years, the Warriors have found a way to justify keeping Green in town, but it feels like things might change this offseason. Golden State wants to do whatever it can to build a title contender around Curry while he’s still on the court, and that could lead to Green being on the move. Considering all he’s given to the Dubs, that’s a tough pill to swallow, but it simply may be time for him to find a new home in the NBA.

Kerr, on the other hand, likely will determine his own fate. If he wants to keep coaching, the Warriors don’t have any intention of moving on from him. However, it seems like there’s at least a chance he decides to part ways with the team this offseason. There are a plethora of important storylines that will determine the success of Golden State’s offseason, but Green and Kerr’s respective futures are two of the biggest items the team needs to take care of as soon as possible.
