The Golden State Warriors enter a critical stretch of the offseason with Stephen Curry’s contract situation at the center of it all. According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, all signs currently point toward Curry signing a new extension sometime in September.

Curry Becomes Extension-Eligible Later This Month

Curry becomes eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million contract extension on August 29, and league sources indicate both sides hold mutual interest in finalizing a new deal this offseason. Without an extension, Curry would head into next summer as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

Siegel’s reporting pushed back directly on persistent trade speculation surrounding Curry.

“Curry isn’t going anywhere,” Siegel wrote.

According to sources cited by ClutchPoints, Curry wants to remain in Golden State and has no plans to request a trade. He’s expected to be on the roster for the entirety of the 2026-27 season regardless of how contract talks unfold.

Warriors Reportedly Willing to Give Curry Whatever He Wants

The structure of a potential new deal appears entirely up to Curry himself. If he wants the full $136.7 million running through the 2028-29 season, the Warriors are prepared to offer exactly that. If he’d prefer to take a discount to help the team retain more flexibility elsewhere, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has reportedly signaled he’d have no issue with that approach either.

That flexibility reflects the reality of Golden State’s offseason. The Warriors pursued multiple star-caliber additions this summer, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and Anthony Davis, and came away with none of them. The roster heading into next season looks largely similar to the one that finished 37-45 and missed the playoffs entirely a year ago.

Golden State’s offseason hasn’t gone according to plan. But the Curry situation appears to be resolving in the most straightforward way possible. He’s staying. The Warriors are prepared to structure the deal however he prefers.

The bigger questions about this roster’s ceiling remain unanswered. Curry’s commitment to finding out isn’t one of them.
