The Golden State Warriors are one of three teams in the NBA that have yet to add a player in free agency, and more than a month into the official offseason, any hopes of building a stronger roster around franchise star Stephen Curry look bleak.
Despite that, signs point to the Warriors still eyeing the free agent market, and multiple insiders have circulated one name in particular as a potential addition to join Golden State: Kelly Olynyk, who spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs.
While Olynyk played out the final season of his two-year, $26 million deal and is currently an unrestricted free agent available to join the Warriors, a new development could blow up any hopes of Golden State adding the 35-year-old veteran big man.

Olynyk has recently been named as a Warriors free agent target to add in the frontcourt next to Draymond Green, Al Horford, and Kristaps Porzingis.
Speaking on a recent live stream, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel offered Olynyk as a free agent option for the Warriors to target, as he’s been linked to the team for the past few years.
“Kelly Olynyk, a guy that has been linked to the Warriors before,” Siegel said. “He’s been a target of them for the last two to three years. He’s going to be an option on a minimum deal.”
Additionally, speaking on a similar live stream, insider Jake Fischer once again linked Olynyk as a Warriors free agent target. He also mentioned Georges Niang as another potential veteran addition for Golden State.

The Warriors have a few million in cap space and open roster spots to add a free agent like Olynyk, but he and any other additions would likely come on veteran minimum deals for about $3.8 million each for next season.
However, despite Golden State’s interest in a player like Olynyk, new developments on the center’s offseason plans could throw a wrench in the Warriors’ pursuit of the cheap big man this summer.
Kelly Olynyk Seen In Paris With Spurs Teammates
Despite being mentioned in Warriors free agency rumors, the latest reports on Olynyk might have just signaled his plans on re-signing with the Spurs, the team he suited up for last season.
As the franchise has been sharing pictures and videos on social media of Victor Wembanyama hosting his teammates in Paris, France, Olynyk was seen alongside Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, and Harrison Barnes in the Louvre museum in front of the Mona Lisa.
Harmless? Perhaps. But over a month into the offseason, if Olynyk’s free agency plans involved going somewhere else, like the Warriors, he likely wouldn’t be on a trip to Europe with his former teammates just for fun.
While not a consistent contributor for San Antonio last season and rather acting as a veteran presence, Olynyk could very well re-sign with the Spurs on a minimum deal, instead of moving West to Golden State.
His exact free agency plans remain unknown, and though the Warriors have been linked to the 35-year-old as a late-summer addition, there’s no guarantee, or even direct evidence at this point, that he’s leaning towards joining Curry and Golden State’s roster.
