Arrest of Ravens Star Dominates Headlines
On the same day trade rumors began to circulate regarding Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman, much more serious news broke on the $36.75 million veteran on Friday.
According to TMZ, Bateman was arrested on June 3 in Georgia for allegedly attacking his ex’s car with their newborn baby inside.
From TMZ: “NFL star Rashod Bateman is accused of family violence in Georgia after he allegedly smashed the windows of his baby mama’s car … while his 3-month-old was inside … TMZ has learned. According to court docs, obtained by TMZ, the alleged victim told cops the incident happened around 6 AM on June 3. Authorities claim Rashod used an object to break the windshield and driver’s side window of the alleged victim’s 2021 Benz. According to the arrest warrant, glass shattered and caused multiple small lacerations to the alleged victim’s face. The officer noted they saw some glass in her face when talking to her and multiple contusions to her face.”
Bateman was a 1st-round pick (No. 27 overall) by the Ravens in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Ravens addressed the incident in a prepared statement.
From the Ravens: “We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him. We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment.”
The news of his arrest broke on the same day as news of a rumored trade partner for Bateman, who seems on the outs with the Ravens after they drafted wide receivers in consecutive rounds in the 2026 NFL Draft with Ja’Kobi Lane (3rd round) and Elijah Sarratt (4th round).
“The Texans have made exploratory trade calls, per league sources,” NFL reporter Aaron Wilson wrote on his official X account on Friday. “Among the potential targets: New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman. The Texans aren’t expected to have a reunion with former All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who’s now the assistant receivers coach at Georgia Tech. The Texans, ideally, want a bigger receiver should they bring in outside reinforcements, per a league source.”
The Texans are trying to figure out a way to replace the loss of talented young wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who tore his ACL and is out for the season.
Bateman Fell Flat After Signing Massive Contract
If we are looking for a reason or an excuse why Bateman was so bad in 2025, the truth is that answer might not exist.
Sometimes bad is just bad, and the Ravens seem stuck with Bateman in 2026 after signing him to a 3-year, $36.75 million contract extension just 1 year ago.
After a breakout season of 45 receptions for 756 yards and 9 touchdowns in 17 games in 2024 — the 1st time in his career Bateman played every regular season game — his follow-up was 19 receptions for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns in 13 games in 2025.
As a team, the Ravens went 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the 1st time since 2021 after entering the season as AFC favorites. Now, the Ravens have a new head coach, Jesse Minter, and a new offensive coordinator in Declan Doyle.
