Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is under some heat after the team's loss to the Detroit Lions under Ben Johnson.

It was a tough game for the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 14, in the Motor City, and the Bears got a taste of how bitter the Lions are about not only how they went down last postseason but Johnson jumping ship right away to Chicago. In the end, the Lions pulled off a 52-21 victory against the Bears, and it was a dramatic scene.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t have a bad game but he also didn’t have a great one. Williams passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns for Chicago, and Rome Odunze caught both of Williams’ scoring passes. Former Lions player D’Andre Swift did what he could against his former team, rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown, but it didn’t result in a win. Meanwhile, Lions quarterback Jared Goff, according to ESPN, finished “with a near perfect passer rating (156.0) while throwing for 334 yards and five touchdowns” and “wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown caught three of the scores.

Now, Williams is getting warned about the team’s upcoming, Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys. This is crunch time if the team doesn’t want to enter the season 0-3.

Caleb Williams Under Pressure With the Chicago Bears

There are a handful of teams in the NFL that are really under pressure going into Week 3. One of them is the Chicago Bears. In a Monday, September 15 feature for Bleacher Report, Alex Kay discusses the quarterbacks under the most pressure in Week 3 of the NFL.

“Due to factors like fortunate luck, scheduling and injuries, some still must prove they aren’t pretenders and have what it takes to contend despite their respectable starts,” he states, adding that “several teams have stumbled out of the gate by losing back-to-back matchups.”

For Chicago, he says that the “Bears looked like they could be sneaky contenders in 2025 after making some sweeping organizational changes during the offseason.” However, of course, “that hasn’t come to fruition, however, as the club is now 0-2 following two tough divisional losses to open the year.

He adds that “Williams has posted a relatively pedestrian passing stat line, averaging a 61.5 completion percentage with 417 yards and three touchdowns against one interception and six sacks” and that “Chicago’s offense rates league-average in both yardage and points scored on the season.” They’ll need to be better if they truly want to be contenders this season.

“If Williams can’t get it going in Week 3 against a Dallas Cowboys defense that just gave up 37 points to the lowly New York Giants,” he adds, “this could be an extremely trying season in the Windy City.”

So, this is the Bears‘ chance to finally get a win. It’s crunch time. But, Williams is a very talented quarterback, so that’s positive, and he just need to finally get things to click.

Ben Johnson Talks Dan Campbell

When asked about Campbell in the post-game presser, Johnson pointed out exactly what happened. “What’s he supposed to do? It’s fourth-and-goal, what do you want him to do,” Johnson said when asked about Campbell’s fourth-down decision making. “Yeah he could have kicked the field goal. They don’t kick field goals. They go for it there. He was doing what he’s supposed to do.” He added, “That’s what he does.”

Now, the Bears have to put that huge loss behind them and look to the Cowboys. The game is Sunday, September 21, at home.
