The Cincinnati Bengals got back in the win column Sunday with a 31-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins, but it wasn’t exactly the stress-free afternoon that head coach Zac Taylor might have hoped for.
Cincinnati entered the matchup coming off consecutive losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars, with plenty of questions surrounding the team’s performance and coaching.
The pressure on Taylor had been a significant topic of discussion leading up to the matchup, making a victory particularly important heading into the team’s bye week.
While the Bengals earned the win in Miami, it wasn’t the flawless, dominant performance fans might have hoped for.
The game featured several costly mistakes, including turnovers, penalties, and defensive breakdowns.
At one point, Taylor’s frustrations appeared to boil over in a heated sideline exchange with tight end Erick All.
The confrontation, captured on video, offered a glimpse of the emotions surrounding a victory that was considerably more difficult than Cincinnati might have expected.

During Sunday’s matchup, All was flagged for unnecessary roughness following an altercation with Miami Dolphins safety Julius Wood.
The 15-yard penalty was one of several frustrating mistakes committed by the Bengals during the afternoon.
Following the incident, cameras captured what appeared to be an angry reaction from Taylor on the Cincinnati sideline.
In a video shared on X, Taylor can be seen removing his headset in frustration before directing some heated words toward All.
The exchange was brief, and there was no indication of a prolonged argument between the two. Nevertheless, Taylor’s visible irritation made for a noteworthy moment during an already tense contest.
The Bengals have struggled with penalties and mental mistakes throughout 2026. This is an alarming pattern, especially given the fact that the Bengals were the second-least penalized team throughout 2025.
Taylor has expressed clear frustration with the team’s discipline, even after the win in Miami.
Taylor will need to turn that frustration into results if the Bengals want to live up to their lofty expectations for this season.
Zac Taylor Calls Out Bengals’ Mistakes Despite Victory Over Dolphins
Speaking with reporters following the game, Taylor acknowledged that he was pleased to escape Miami with a victory but expressed frustration with several aspects of his team’s performance.
According to the Bengals’ official postgame transcript, Taylor specifically mentioned the penalties as one of his biggest concerns.
“A lot of frustrating things on our end,” Taylor said.
The coach pointed to two personal fouls, two red-zone fumbles, poor special-teams decisions, and a run defense that surrendered more than 200 rushing yards.
Those issues helped keep the contest close despite a strong afternoon from quarterback Joe Burrow.
While Cincinnati won and mostly controlled the game, they were never quite able to break away from a now 0-5 Dolphins team. Getting the win was the most important thing for the Bengals, but they have a lot to work on going into their bye.
Taylor emphasized that winning was still the most important outcome, particularly following the team’s back-to-back losses.
“We won the game and I’m excited about that,” Taylor told reporters.
Coming out of the bye, the Bengals will match up with the current AFC North leaders in the Baltimore Ravens. This game could be very important for division seeding and potential playoff seeding later in the season.
For now, Taylor and the Bengals will have to focus on the task at hand, which, according to Taylor, seems to be eliminating mistakes and costly penalties.
