The Cleveland Browns are set for an intriguing offseason.
Cleveland fired coach Kevin Stefanski and hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. The team is also expected to pursue quarterback help this offseason, which could mean Shedeur Sanders will be the backup or third-stringer.
However, Browns star defensive tackle Shelby Harris shared high praise for Sanders and how he handled himself all season long.
“We love Shedeur and the way he carries himself in the locker room, he’s one of the guys,” Harris said on Wake Up Barstool on Friday. “He’s always around everybody, he’s always talking to everybody, he’s in the mix. All these bad things you heard about Shedeur before the draft is trash.
“It was people trying to tear down his name, he wasn’t like that at all. I know other quarterbacks who are like that, and that’s not him. So, that’s why I’ll always stand up for him. It’s not fair to always have this negative outline of himself, when that’s not him. He’s a great kid and I’m excited to see what his future holds.”
It’s clear Sanders is beloved in the Browns’ locker room. And, many teammates will be rooting for him to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2026.
Sanders finished the year throwing 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was also named to the Pro Bowl.
Todd Monken Sends Message to Sanders
The Browns are set to introduce Todd Monken as their new head coach on Friday.
Monken was at the facility and the former Ravens offensive coordinator saw Sanders in the facility and said he wanted to draft him in Baltimore last season.
“We tried to draft your a** last year for God’s sake,” Monken said to Sanders in a clip posted on the Browns’ Instagram account. “It’s all worked out. You remember that, right? Someday we’ll get a chance to talk about that.”
Monken’s message to Sanders likely is good news for the young quarterback. If Monken wanted to take him in Baltimore, perhaps he saw something in him that he believes he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Browns Could Look to Add a QB
Cleveland has been trying to find their franchise quarterback for quite some time, and this is the offseason the Browns could get aggressive.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said on Friday that the Browns will be aggressive in landing a quarterback this offseason.
“I’m gonna say it’s somebody different in there. Whether it’s a Malik Willis in free agency or take a swing on a Ty Simpson from Alabama in the draft, who some teams really like,” Fowler said on 92.3 The Fan. “I could see a different swing. I go back to the draft last year when they made the Travis Hunter trade. The idea was to load up on a draft that was supposed to be better at quarterback, (but) it doesn’t seem to be.
“You do the homework and maybe there is someone in the draft you love you can get. You have two first-round picks. There isn’t a lot in free agency, but if you like Malik Willis, and I know the Browns have done their homework on him, maybe it’s an option.”
Ultimately, it does appear the Browns will add at least on quarterback this offseason.
