Broncos Assistant Becoming Favorite to Become Next Raiders Head Coach

While Sunday’s stakes for the AFC Championship Game between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots couldn’t have higher stakes — a trip to the Super Bowl — the personal and professional stakes for one Broncos offensive assistant have only continued to go up as well.

Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb has become a dark horse favorite to become the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in the last few days, as well as a possibility to become the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer singled Webb out as the favorite to be hired by the Raiders, where part owner and 7-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady is leading the search.

“(Webb) has the presence,” Breer said. “He has the personality to reach players. He’s just a really unique guy. The people in Denver would tell you his football acumen is where it needs to be. I think Davis would make a lot of sense for them… It’d be a gamble, of course.”

Webb is in his third season with the Broncos and added the title of offensive pass game coordinator in 2025 as Denver went 14-3 and earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs.

“The Bills now pose as a threat to land Davis Webb as HC over the Raiders,” Raiders reporter Nick Walters wrote on X. “The soon-to-be 31-year-old Broncos pass game coordinator, who has the 2nd-best betting odds of being Vegas’ next HC, is ‘really close with Josh Allen‘ and Buffalo is focusing on offensive-minded coaches after firing Sean McDermottThe Raiders have interviewed Webb and await Denver’s playoff fate to potentially hold a second one.”

Raiders Hold No. 1 Overall Pick in 2026 NFL Draft

The Raiders have the top pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL draft after going 3-14 in 2025 — a year that led to head coach Pete Carroll being fired after one season.

It’s almost a lock the Raiders will take national champion and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the top pick after he led the University of Indiana to an undefeated season and the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Not everyone is sold on Webb, however.

“Raiders fans who want Davis Webb as Head Coach,” Raiders superfan Shifty QB1 wrote on X followed by several facepalm emojis. “The Broncos offense is one of the most boring in the NFL. Bo Nix has terrible Mechanics, they lean on RPO’s, Nix’s athleticism, & their defense Webb has only coached for 3 years, never has coordinated, & had a bad NFL Career.

“Genuinely confused by the Davis Webb hype,” Raiders Simp wrote on X. “Only 3 years coaching experience and has never called played. A guy can have high future potential without being ready to make a massive leap to HC right now.”

Massive Task Awaits Webb, Broncos

Webb, who was NFL MVP Josh Allen’s backup in Buffalo from 2019-2021, will have his hands full this week as he takes on the task of a lifetime — getting backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham prepared to start in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots after starter Bo Nix broke his ankle in the overtime win over the Bills.
