Sometimes, NFL teams actually do the thing that makes the most sense.

In the case of the Denver Broncos, that meant finding the right person for the job at offensive coordinator — someone who was there all along in quarterbacks coach and former NFL quarterback Davis Webb.

“Sources: The Broncos are promoting QBs coach Davis Webb to offensive coordinator,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account on Monday. “Webb was a HC candidate and a top OC candidate for several teams, but he’s staying in Denver with Bo Nix — whom he’s very close with. Expect Webb to be a top HC candidate next year.”

Webb takes over for Joe Lombardi, who was fired as offensive coordinator following a 14-3 regular season in which the Broncos obtained the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs but lost 10-7 at home to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

The Broncos didn’t have Nix against the Patriots after the 2024 first round pick and one of the NFL’s most dynamic young quarterbacks fractured his ankle in overtime of a win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.

Offensive quality control coach Logan Kilgore was promoted to QBs coach in a corresponding move.

“Sources: Denver’s passing game coordinator Davis Webb has reached agreement to become the Broncos’ offensive coordinator,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on X. “Webb interviewed for three head coaching jobs during this hiring cycle, had other offensive coordinator opportunities, but opted to remain with the Broncos.”

Webb’s Name Attached to Several HC Jobs

Webb, 31 years old, seemed to come out of nowhere in this coaching cycle to become not just a hot candidate for offensive coordinator jobs around the NFL but was a surprise candidate for sever head coaching jobs.

Most notably, Webb seemed like a prime candidate to become the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, where he was a backup quarterback to reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and is Allen’s best friend.

Webb most recently pulled his name out of the coaching search for the Las Vegas Raiders, who went with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak — the son of former Broncos quarterback and Super Bowl-winning head coach Gary Kubiak.

Straight From NFL Career Into Coaching Career

Webb was a star quarterback at Texas Tech before an injury cost him his starting job – when he returned to health he’d been replaced by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 2-time NFL MVP and 3-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes and transferred to Cal.

In his one season at Cal, Webb threw for 4,295 yards, 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and played his way into becoming a third round pick (No. 87 overall) by the New York Giants in the 2017 NFL draft and spent 7 seasons as an NFL backup quarterback on the Giants, New York Jets and Bills before going directly into coaching.

Webb joined the Broncos in 2023, head coach Sean Payton’s first season, as quarterbacks coach and added the title of offensive pass game coordinator in 2025.

The Broncos ended a 9-year playoff drought in 2024 and tied the franchise record for most wins in a single season in 2025 as well as setting the NFL record with 12 comeback wins.
