Football rivalries may divide teams on Sunday, but frightening injuries like Jack Campbell’s remind everyone of the bond that connects the NFL community. The Lions linebacker has received an incredible wave of support from different personalities in the league, with one of them being the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho.
In a recent episode of the Speakeasy podcast, the former NFL linebacker encouraged everyone to send positive thoughts and pray for swift recovery of Jack Campbell after the on-field incident against the Vikings last Sunday.
“It’s not just the words, thoughts, and prayers for Jack Campbell, but genuinely, I’ve started every night, and I’ve ended every night crouching in prayer for Jack Campbell because it is that serious,” said Emmanuel Acho. “I am concerned as somebody in the linebacker fraternity, somebody in the NFL fraternity. Anytime you see something like this, your heart breaks because though you sign up for injury while playing the game of football, you don’t think you’re signing up for this.”
“And now Jack Campbell and his family are in the midst of the scariest fight they’ve been in, likely in their lives,” he added. “And that is heartbreaking for me, regardless of Jack Campbell coming out on the positive side of this, which I strongly pray and believe he will, because this fear moment is going to be irreparable. So it’s scary. It’s sad, but I’m not just saying that. I’m thinking of and praying for Jack Campbell.”
As prayers pour in for the Lions star from the NFL community, the All-Pro released an official statement today about his condition, giving football fans clarity on his situation.
Jack Campbell Issues An Official Statement About His Condition
After Jack Campbell was injured in the fourth quarter of the Vikings game, he was immediately carted off and taken to the local hospital. For the first two days, the details about his injury and condition were kept under wraps. However, today, the Lions officially released a statement from the All-Pro linebacker himself on social media.
“I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body,” noted Jack Campbell, providing much-needed clarity about his current condition. “I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
As he continues to recover, there is a cloud over his future on the gridiron, and the Lions are likely to prepare for the rest of this season without him.
Jack Campbell’s Absence Leaves A Leadership Void In Lions’ Defense
Jack Campbell was appointed as one of the defensive captains this season, so his absence will be felt moving forward, given the impact the Pro-Bowler has had. As a leader and captain, his absence could leave a psychological void in the defense.
His injury timing could not have come at a worse time for the Lions, as the rookie LB Jimmy Rolder is also ruled out for the season, and they happened to get injured during the same play. With Damone Clark and Devin White already injured, the team’s linebacker depth is already depleted. Derrick Barnes and Malcolm Rodriguez could see themselves getting a heavier workload with no proven depth behind them.
