Stopping a winning streak is never easy, but the Detroit Lions showed character today, securing a 19-15 win. Though the home team walked out with a crucial win, it came at a cost. The Pro Bowler and one of the key defensive chess pieces of the team, the linebacker Jack Campbell, dealt with a serious neck injury that eventually led to hospitalization.

When Jack Campbell fell on the ground, it was a difficult sight for everyone in Detroit, prompting emotional responses from several of his teammates, including the wide receiver Jameson Williams, who gave his take on the situation.

“That was pretty hurtful to us. He is a captain of this team; he is a big leader to this team. We are praying for him a lot,” Williams said after the game. “It just motivated us a lot more; we got a third-down, fourth-down stop after that crowd was into it. Offense to go score after that. I guess we just turned it up a notch for our brother. He goes out there and puts it on the line every single play for us. That’s why he’s got the C on his chest. We’re praying for him.”

Jack Campbell is a defensive captain of the franchise, as he was given that responsibility this season. Moving forward, the injury blow could be a concern for Dan Campbell. While Williams and all the Lions fans are praying for the linebacker, the team gave the latest update on the defensive star.

Lions Provide First Update On Jack Campbell After Scary On-Field Injury

The accident happened on the very first play of the fourth quarter when he was attempting to make a tackle on the Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. After his head hit Hockenson’s hip, he fell on the field, remaining motionless before the medical help arrived.

Medical personnel carted him off the field, while his teammate and good friend Aidan Hutchinson was visibly shocked and had tears in his eyes. Jack was taken to a Detroit hospital, and hours after the scary injury, the Lions officially have an update on his condition.

“Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight for continued evaluation and monitoring,” the Lions announced on social media. “The team will provide further updates as we have them.”

The Lions fans have to wait for further information on his condition, while his future remains uncertain this season amid the serious neck injury.

The injury trouble did not stop with Jack Campbell against the Vikings, especially defensively.

Lions’ Defense Got More Bad News Besides Jack Campbell

Incidentally, the rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder sustained a hamstring injury during the same play in the fourth quarter alongside Jack Campbell. When the incident happened, both linebackers fell on the ground.

Lions’ already depleted secondary got more bad news, as veteran cornerback D.J. Reed had a hip injury in the fourth quarter, failing to play the rest of the game. The first half of the game saw double concussions of Brian Branch and D.J. Wonnum when they had a scary helmet collision at full speed.
