Head coach Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions announced releasing tight end Kenny Yeboah and offensive lineman Justin Herron minutes after the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

The Detroit Lions made two roster moves as the NFL trade deadline passed Tuesday afternoon. But both moves were minor roster subtractions, not blockbuster additions to Dan Campbell’s roster.

Minutes after the trade deadline expired, the Lions announced releasing tight end Kenny Yeboah and offensive lineman Justin Herron. Detroit moved on from Yeboah with an injury settlement.

With the social media post, the Lions indirectly announced the team wouldn’t be acquiring any other players through a trade. The NFL trade deadline was 4 pm ET on Tuesday, November 4.

Dan Campbell’s Lions Release Kenny Yeboah, Justin Herron

Both Yeboah and Herron have been on injured reserve for the Lions since early August. Neither player has appeared in a regular season game for Detroit.

The Lions signed Yeboah in March 2025. Herron arrived in Detroit early in training camp. Both players landed on IR together on August 10.

Yeboah began his career as an undrafted free agent for the New York Jets in 2021. The tight end started his rookie season on the team’s practice squad. During 2021, he appeared in nine games.

Over four seasons with the Jets, Yeboah posted nine catches for 111 receiving yards with a touchdown in 33 games. He started two of those contests, including one last year.

In 2024, Yeboah registered a career-high five catches for 47 yards.

The New England Patriots drafted Herron at No. 195 overall in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Over two seasons with the Patriots, he started 10 contests and dressed for 28 games overall.

From 2022-23, Herron appeared in seven contests for the Las Vegas Raiders. He started one game during the 2023 campaign.

Herron, though, hasn’t played the past two seasons because of injuries sustained during the summer.

Lions Stay Pat at NFL Trade Deadline

Pre-NFL trade deadline rumors has become a popular business over the last few years. Those rumors, though, don’t necessarily indicate a team is about to make a move.

That was obviously the case for Detroit.

Fans who bought into the rumors are likely surprised with the Lions not adding another player before the deadline. The biggest rumored blockbuster for Detroit dating back to the preseason was the Lions acquiring Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro Trey Hendrickson.

However, the Bengals didn’t deal Hendrickson before Tuesday’s deadline.

Pundits also linked the Lions to edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Logan Wilson in trade rumors. Both of those players did change addresses during deadline week.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Phillips from the Miami Dolphins for a 2026 third-rounder. The Dallas Cowboys agreed to send a 2026 seventh-rounder to the Bengals for Wilson.

The Lions could be competing with the Eagles for NFC seeding at the end of the season. Dallas could be in the playoff mix as well.

At the very least, the Lions will face both the Eagles and Cowboys over the next month.

Up next for Detroit is a trip to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Commanders. The Lions will then visit the Eagles before two home games against the New York Giants and then the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.

The Lions will host the Cowboys on December 4.
