The Green Bay Packers were hoping to take a step forward in 2025, but they ended up getting bounced in the wild-card round of the playoffs for the second straight season. While injuries certainly didn’t help the team, it will be back to the drawing board for the Packers this offseason as they look to find a way to get over the hump in 2026.
Early on, Green Bay made a big decision on Matt LaFleur‘s future by handing him a new contract, but it will have to find a new defensive coordinator after Jeff Hafley accepted the Miami Dolphins‘ head coach position. Once free agency rolls around, the Packers have several players they will have to make decisions on, with wide receiver Romeo Doubs being among that group. When looking ahead to free agency, though, Doubs kept it real when discussing his future with the team.
Romeo Doubs Gets Real on His Upcoming Free Agency
Doubs has had a bit of an unusual start to his career in the NFL with the Packers. A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Doubs was initially billed as the savior for Green Bay’s offense in the wake of Davante Adams’ departure. Despite being a Day 3 pick, Doubs faced sky-high expectations from the get-go, which always made it tough for him to win over Packers fans.
In 2025, Doubs enjoyed the best season of his career, catching 55 passes for 724 yards and six touchdowns. With free agency looming, Doubs proved he can be a reliable option in the air when called upon. The problem in Green Bay, at least, is that there are simply too many other playmakers on the offense, which prevents Doubs from making a consistent impact.
With the Packers having other areas of need on their roster, Doubs is entering the offseason with many folks viewing him as an expendable player once free agency rolls around. Things have been trending towards a departure for Doubs over the offseason for some time now, and while he wouldn’t confirm he’s looking for a new home, the talented pass catcher seemed to admit that he’s aware he could be on the move in the near future.
“I will leave that unknown,” Doubs said on “Up & Adams” when asked whether he will re-sign with the Packers. “I would love to be a Green Bay Packer, but I’m just aware of this business. I understand how things go.”

Doubs came in clutch for Green Bay in 2025, as several of its other offensive weapons struggled with injuries. The problem is that when everybody is healthy, there are too many mouths for quarterback Jordan Love to feed. Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Dontayvion Wicks all need targets at wide receiver, with Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, and Josh Jacobs factoring in at tight end and running back, respectively.
Losing Doubs for nothing in free agency would hurt, but the Packers can move on without him and still have an abundance of targets on offense. With Golden looking like a potential breakout candidate in 2026, it makes no sense to keep Doubs around. So while he’s open to a reunion, it would ultimately be very surprising if Doubs is playing for Green Bay next season.
