The Houston Texans have not had Jadeveon Clowney at practice for multiple sessions, and we now know why.
The good news is that they do not expect the veteran to be sidelined much longer.
“We expect Clowney to be back,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told media members after practice on Monday, specifying that the three-time Pro Bowler was “dealing with a lower leg injury. He’ll be back soon.”

Of course, “soon” can mean a wide range of timelines. So, until Clowney is officially back on the field for the Texans, he remains part of the list of injury concerns.
And make no mistake, it is an extensive list for the Texans.
Clowney chose the Texans over the Cleveland Browns, coming full circle back to the organization where it all began for him in the NFL. This setback, albeit expected to be short-lived, is a bit of a spoiler on the positivity his return provided.
Clowney is coming off a productive season with the Dallas Cowboys, but injuries have been a bugaboo throughout his career.
It would make sense if the Texans were overly cautious to preserve him, but only time will tell.
Texans Dealing With Myriad Injury Issues
Clowney’s absence would be tough but less significant if he were not one of three Texans defensive ends dealing with an injury, with a fourth in Logan Hall who has also missed practice time in recent days.
However, they are also without newcomer Dominique Robinson and saw Dylan Horton forced from practice due to an issue.
Their woes extend to other positions, too.
The issue for the Texans is that losing so many depth pieces means bringing in others, and those new players must get acclimated to the team and playbook. Fortunately for the Texans, they have largely avoided injuries to their starters, save for E.J. Speed and Jayden Higgins.
Neither player is expected back this season, adding a silver lining to Clowney’s situation, assuming Ryans’ prognostication is accurate.
