The Houston Texans were among the Super Bowl hopefuls last season, but one former player–linebacker Power Echols–is now with the team that actually won it all in 2025, the Seattle Seahawks.
Echols is a former undrafted free agent who only spent about one month with the Texans.
Still, it is a notable move for the undersized defender, who began his career as a college free agent with the Chicago Bears.
Ex-Texans LB Power Echols Joins Seahawks
“The #Seahawks have signed former Bears, Texans linebacker Power Echols,” Emerald City Spectrum’s Corbin K. Smith reported on X on August 7. “They released linebacker Joseph Vaughn in a corresponding move.”
Echols, 23, was a standout at LSU before turning pro.
Echols signed with Houston in December, but the Texans cut ties with the 5-foot-11 LB just over one month later.
He played in all three of the Bears’ preseason contests last year, though. Echols finished the exhibition slate with just 2 total tackles, but he received high marks across the board from Pro Football Focus for his efforts.
The Seahawks are coming off an impressive run to and victory in the Super Bowl.
Echols could have found a fitting home following his stints with the Bears and Texans in another team that has a dynamic defense with the Seahawks.
Texans Addressed LB Woes
The Texans have encountered a couple of injuries to their linebacker corps, which could have made Echols an intriguing potential return candidate.
Special teamers Jake Hansen and Jake Hummel have both missed time in training camp. The Texans got Hummel back at practice from an undisclosed matter, but Hansen remains week-to-week with an ankle injury.
The Texans lost E.J. Speed to a quad injury during the offseason program.
Houston also signed Sione Takitaki to help mitigate some of their losses at the linebacker position.
The Texans have been fortunate to avoid setbacks at the top of their depth chart with Azeez Al-Shaair and Henry To’oTo’o. But losing depth like Hansen and Speed hurts both their defensive and special teams units.
