Travis Kelce is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs, but his plans with wife-to-be Taylor Swift could complicate the team’s offseason schedule.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Kelce had reached a retirement decision, opting to come back to the Chiefs for another season.
“Back for more: #Chiefs future Hall of Fame TE Travis Kelce is expected to return to Kansas City for a 14th season, a message that’s been delivered to teams who will want him,” Rapoport reported in a post on X. “At 36, Kelce’s play was at its usual level, landing him in the Pro Bowl. He’s loyal to KC & will stay.”
While he is set to return, Kelce could be missing some key early time as he and Swift tie the knot.
Chiefs Likely to Practice Near Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Rumored Wedding Date
Kelce and Swift are coming up fast on their rumored wedding date, which is reportedly set for the late spring.
The New York Post’s Page Six reported that the couple had already circled a date on the calendar in June.
“Taylor Swift cut a hefty check to snag a bride’s wedding date at a posh Rhode Island venue, Page Six is told,” the report noted. “Multiple sources tell us that the billionaire pop superstar wanted to marry her fiancé, Travis Kelce, at Ocean House in Watch Hill on Saturday, June 13, 2026.”
While the Chiefs have not yet released their full offseason practice schedule — and typically don’t until around the first week in April — their past schedules have included voluntary and some mandatory practices very close to the time Kelce and Swift are tying the knot.
As ESPN reported, the Chiefs held OTA offseason workouts from May 27-29, June 2-4, and June 10-13 last year — which would put them right on the date of the Kelce-Swift wedding. The team didn’t start mandatory practices for another week, with the mandatory minicamp taking place from June 17-19.
That could put Kelce at risk of missing some of the team’s optional practices, or even the start of mandatory minicamp, if the schedule remains consistent from last year and the couple opts for an extended honeymoon.
But Kelce could have a blueprint from another big-name NFL player. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld tied the knot on May 31, 2025, with the league MVP missing only the end of an optional OTA.
