As Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce faces a looming decision on his NFL future, Taylor Swift made a big career announcement on Friday. Though more than 20 years into her massively successful career it may seem as if Swift has won every possible award she could win, according to Friday’s announcement she has now taken home an honor that she has never won before.
Taylor Swift’s latest career milestone comes as Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce faces a major decision about his NFL future — a moment of tremendous uncertainty for Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs legend who is currently deciding whether he will play one more season in the NFL, or retire.
And Kelce must also decide, if he does come back for his 14th NFL season, will he play for the Chiefs or another team?
Though she did not attend the ceremony, Swift won a major award in the country of Turkey for the first time in her career, when she was named “Most Powerful International Singer or Group” at the 2026 Power Music Awards. The awards, also known as the PowerTürk Music Awards, have been given at least since 2019, and are organized by one of Turkey’s most popular radio stations and music television channels, PowerTürk.
The honor for Swift comes less than a week after she was shut out at the Brit Awards, where she was nominated in two categories. She lost to Spanish experimental pop artist Rosalía for the International Artist of the Year award. And her song “The Fate of Ophelia” was beaten out for “Best International Song” by “Apt.,” a collaboration between Bruno Mars and Rosé, a singer who rose to stardom as a member of the Korean “girl group” BlackPink.
Swift did not attend the Brit Awards either, but it appears that the Turkish awards were more welcoming.
What Are the Travis Kelce Exit Rumors With the Chiefs?
Not only is Kelce facing a retirement decision, he is also a free agent. His two-year, $34.3 million contract expired after last season, leaving him free to sign with any team if he should decide to come back.
According to a Sports Illustrated report earlier this week, “If Kelce doesn’t retire, the smart money says he and the Chiefs will work out a one-year deal, but if he’s available, he should have ample suitors.”
The SI report names the Cleveland Browns as a potential landing spot for Kelce if he decides to move on from the Chiefs after 13 years, presumably because Kelce grew up in the suburban community of Cleveland Heights and signing with the Browns would serve as a homecoming to cap off a career that will certainly land him in the Hall of Fame.
Giants Also a Rumored Destination
At the same time, radio personality Craig Carton has reported a rumor that Kelce may be interested in signing for a season with the New York Giants, to position himself in the country’s largest media market as he heads toward a post-NFL career in the sports and entertainment media.
At this point, only Kelce and perhaps Swift know what he has in mind for his career future.
The couple are in the midst of planning their wedding, widely believed to take place on June 13 though no official date has been confirmed. With the NFL free agency period opening on Wednesday, Kelce will face a deadline to announce his decision on retirement, signing with the Chiefs or with another team, which will also finally allow Swift and Kelce to focus on their wedding plans.
