The Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce are back in pads at training camp as they prepare for their first preseason matchup on August 15.
However, it’s unclear how much action Kelce will see against the Rams. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who’s still recovering from an ACL and MCL tear suffered in December, is unlikely to play.
If Mahomes is on the bench, it seems likely that Reid will rest the bulk of his veteran starters. “We’ve got new people in those other positions behind him that need some work, and so the more reps they get, the better,” Reid said.

Fans can’t wait to see Kelce take the field for the first time as a married man after tying the knot with Taylor Swift last month. Before he takes an official snap, however, the Chiefs recognized the superstar tight end after Friday’s practice.

Considering this is likely Kelce’s 14th and final season in the NFL, the Chiefs’ social media team couldn’t let August 7 pass without a shoutout for No. 87. The team posted on X and Instagram, “Happy 8/7 to all who celebrate 🙂↕️.”
One fan commented, “Hope your celebration is as unstoppable as a Chiefs comeback, and the only thing that’s ‘up’ is the vibe!” Another fan replied with a nod to Swift, “Happy 8/7 to my favorite human exclamation point he keeps it 100 on and off the football field.”
Kelce also used the special day to promote a sweet giveaway as a brand ambassador for Six Flags. He posted on X, “87 Season Passes. One epic giveaway. Let’s do this!!

“New Heights,” the podcast hosted by Kelce and his older brother, Jason Kelce, also commemorated August 7 on social media. The show posted, “Nothing says Happy 8/7 Day like an endless loop of @tkelce laughing 😂😭,” with a video of the Chiefs star crack up during various interviews.

After a whirlwind summer that included what’s referred to as “the wedding of the century,” fans wondered if Kelce also kept up with his training.
Reid, who attended the star-studded nuptials, confirmed Kelce returned to St. Joseph prepared for the 2026 NFL season. “Well, he came back in good shape,” Reid told NFL Network on August 4.
“And [he’s] just playing like crazy…focused in and ready to go. When you have somebody that’s been here 14 years who wants to be out there every snap, [who’s] gonna play and be aggressive and not be stopped — that’s contagious.”
