The Kansas City Chiefs made the Dameon Pierce signing news official on November 24, ahead of the Week 13 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Chiefs’ social media team announced the Pierce addition on X, while also relaying the corresponding cut in the same post.

“We have signed RB Dameon Pierce to our Practice Squad,” KC confirmed. Adding: “We have terminated the Practice Squad contract of WR Jimmy Holiday.”

Unfortunately for the rookie wide receiver, Holiday, it’s not the first time his NFL career has been flipped upside down in recent weeks.

Holiday was released from the Chiefs’ practice squad just after the 2025 trade deadline, after spending the spring, summer, and early portion of the season developing within the KC organization. He was then re-signed shortly thereafter.

Perhaps Holiday returns in late 2025 or early 2026, once again, but that’ll also be his choice.

The rookie pass-catcher and returner is now a free agent, and after Kansas City has very clearly made it known that he’s the low man on the practice squad over the past several weeks, it’s possible that the undrafted prospect elects to take his chances somewhere else.

More on Chiefs WR Cut Jimmy Holiday Amid Dameon Pierce News

Chiefs release WR Jimmy Holiday ahead of Week 13 matchup with Cowboys.

GettyThe Kansas City Chiefs have parted ways with wide receiver Jimmy Holiday in Week 13.

For Holiday, the recent roster gymnastics are likely circumstantial, at least to some extent. The Chiefs are healthier than ever at the wide receiver position entering Week 13, and teams must make tough choices when they’re pursuing a Super Bowl.

Keeping a developmental wide receiver and return specialist just doesn’t make sense when you have greater needs elsewhere, and that’s the uphill battle that Holiday is currently facing.

During the preseason, the 6-foot-1 training camp darling caught 3 of his 4 targets for a total of 60 receiving yards. This included a 50-yard reception and 12 total yards after the catch, as well as two preseason kick returns for a total of 56 yards (28-yard average).

The rookie UDFA transferred a couple of times in college, playing for Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky, and Tennessee. He displayed some promise as a returner and big-play WR during that time.

Holiday returned kickoffs for Tennessee in 2021 and 2022, recording a 25.2-yard average in 2021. His best season as a receiver came with Louisiana Tech in 2024, when he caught 39 of 65 targets for 476 receiving yards.

Obviously, Holiday is a candidate to re-sign to the practice squad again, considering he’s already seesawed on and off it once before. In the meantime, he’ll look for a new NFL opportunity, at least until the next time another KC practice squad role opens up.

Will Chiefs Elevate Pierce for Week 13 vs. Cowboys?

Pierce has quite an interesting resume. As a rookie, he contributed 1,104 scrimmage yards and 5 total touchdowns.

It’s been a complete regression since then, however, as Pierce dropped to 517 scrimmage yards in year two, 295 scrimmage yards in year three, and just 26 scrimmage yards this season.

Having said that, he’s only 25 years old, and clearly the talent is there. It just needs to be unlocked.

The Chiefs will have their first opportunity to elevate Pierce from the practice squad in Week 13, but don’t expect that to happen. Head coach Andy Reid likes to get his players acclimated to his offensive system and playbook before he throws them into the mix.

With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see if Pierce factors into the RB plan in 2025, or if this is more of a 2026 transaction like the Tyquan Thornton signing last year.
