The New England Patriots waived tight end Jeremiah Franklin this week. It didn’t take long, though, for him to find a new team.
The tight end didn’t have to look far either, as he is staying in the AFC East.
According to the NFL transaction wire, the Miami Dolphins claimed Franklin off waivers Wednesday. The move came one day after the Patriots waived him.
This is the second team the tight end is joining since the start of training camp. Franklin originally signed with the Patriots on July 24.
Franklin will join a group of five other tight ends in Miami. He will have three and a half weeks to prove he’s worth keeping for the regular season.
All NFL teams must cut their rosters to 53 players by 6 pm ET on August 30.

Franklin is trying to find a home in the league after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He spent four years at Boston College from 2022-25, where he registered 93 catches, 1,010 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
As a senior, he had 49 receptions, 506 yards and two scores.
His 93 career catches ranks him fifth among all-time Boston College tight ends.
The Patriots dropped Franklin after he had just a brief stint with the team. Still, it’s never a bad move and always an intriguing idea to add a rival’s former player.
If Franklin finds a way onto the Dolphins roster this season, he could be very motivated to face the reigning AFC East champions.
Dolphins TE Depth at 2026 NFL Training Camp

Franklin will join Ben Sims, Greg Dulcich, Will Kacmarek, Seydou Traore and Cole Turner at tight end in Miami. That’s not a group that will impress most fans. While Franklin doesn’t move the needle a ton, it’s another flier on a potential pass-catcher to help new quarterback Malik Willis.
Miami has a very young roster. At tight end alone, the Dolphins now have three rookies. In addition to Franklin, Kacmarek and Traore are first-year players.
The Dolphins will get to see their tight end group in action on the field for a game in about a week. The Dolphins will visit the Washington Commanders for their first preseason matchup.
Miami will also host the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons during the preseason slate.
Franklin will have to last a considerable amount of time with the Dolphins to get a crack at the Patriots during the regular season. Miami and New England won’t renew their rivalry this season until November 1 during Week 8.
The Dolphins and Patriots will also square off during Week 18.
Last season, Dulcich led all Dolphins tight ends with 26 catches and 335 receiving yards. He’s actually Miami’s returning leading receiver not counting running back De’Von Achane.
Dulcich, who will be entering his fourth NFL season, averaged a career-best 12.9 yards per catch last season as well. In 2022, he had 411 receiving yards behind 33 catches.
