The New York Jets lost 27-21 to the Miami Dolphins.
Before head coach Aaron Glenn addressed the media, he spoke to his players in the locker room.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini described an “angry” Coach Glenn who was heard “screaming at the team.” It was so loud that Cimini heard the yelling “through the wall of the Jets locker room as we sit in the press room.
“Aaron Glenn giving [a] very passionate speech [in the] Jets locker room. Can hear it on the other side of the wall. He was laying into them quite a bit,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY described.
“Aaron Glenn in the postgame locker room was yelling loud enough for us to hear him in the press conference room,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said.
Coach Glenn Had Plenty of Reason to Yell After an 0-4 Start
The Jets fell to 0-4 on the season. Only three NFL teams remain winless heading into Week 5: the Tennessee Titans (0-4), the New Orleans Saints (0-4), and the Jets.
If the 2026 NFL draft started today, the Jets would hold the No. 2 overall pick in the first round, per Tankathon. We couldn’t even make it through September without a draft discussion.
Coach Glenn is in familiar franchise history from a Jets futility perspective. Adam Gase (2019) and Lou Holtz (1976) also started their Jets head coaching tenures 0-4, but no first-time Jets coach has ever started 0-5, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
In Week 5, the Jets will host the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. According to Vegas Insider, Dallas opened as a 1.5-point favorite against the Jets.
Jets Defense Is Historically Awful Through the First Month of the Season
Coach Glenn is a former NFL cornerback who played for 15 years. He has been coaching defensive football for over a decade. He may not like the label, but Glenn is a defensive guy.
When he was hired as the head coach, expectations rose for the team overall, but specifically on the defensive side of the ball.
This team started the season with former All-Pros at every level of the defense: Quinnen Williams, Quincy Williams, and Sauce Gardner.
Coach Glenn suggested throughout the offseason that the previous coaching staff didn’t maximize the talent on the roster. That was supposed to change with Glenn taking over and Steve Wilks calling plays on defense.
It hasn’t.
The Jets are the only team in the NFL that hasn’t registered a single takeaway through the first month of the season.
They only have six total sacks on the season, they rank 30th in defensive EPA per dropback, and 54.8% of their opponents’ drives have ended in a FG or TD, which ranks as the third-highest rate in the NFL, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed on social media.
The Jets are allowing 30 points per game on average, which ranks 29th in the NFL, per ESPN.
Gang Green needs to diagnose what the problem is quickly. Are the players not good enough? Do they not fit the scheme? Is the defensive play-caller the problem? The Jets are in quicksand at 0-4, time is running out, and the Jets have shown no signs of turning this thing around.
