Former NFL HC Destroys the Jets in Wild Rant: ‘Horrible’

Not everyone is a fan of the New York Jets heading into 2025.

That is especially true for former NFL head coach Jay Gruden. During an appearance on the “Clean Pocket” podcast, Gruden went on an aggressive rant, ripping apart the Jets, saying they will win fewer than three games next season.

For context, in the Jets/New York Titans’ 65 seasons, they have only lost fewer than three games twice. In 2020, the Jets finished with a 2-14 record, and in 1996, they finished 1-15.

“Every offensive category: Garrett Wilson – lower, Justin Fields – lower, Breece Hall – lower, the win total – lower. Whatever you guys want, play lower,” Gruden shouted on their show sponsored by Underdog Fantasy Sports.

Earlier in the episode, Gruden had predicted that the Miami Dolphins would finish in last place in the AFC East in 2025. After his rant about the Jets, he admitted that, “I changed my mind. I’m looking at the Jets [to finish in last place] … This is Detroit Lions’ B-team except for maybe Garrett Wilson … This team’s last, this team is horrible.”

Gruden, 58, was an NFL head coach for the now Washington Commanders from 2014-19. The veteran coach also served as an offensive coordinator on four occasions, two of those being NFL stints.

The National Media Can Be a Cruel Animal

In 2023, every national television show across America was talking about the Jets and their chances of not only ending the playoff drought but making a deep run.

Fast forward two years, and all of the air is out of the balloon.

The Jets have once again become the punching bag. Constantly being the butt of the joke.

How can they change that? Win ball games.

Head coach Aaron Glenn has adopted a “moving in silence” campaign for himself and his team.

Despite the noise outside of the building, the Jets are keeping their heads down and not saying much. Atypical for the Jets at this time of year.

Fans constantly joke about winning the offseason each year. Whether that be free agent splashes, sexy trades, or just overall offseason chatter.

The Jets have been the opposite of sexy; they have been straight up boring this offseason, and that’s okay.

Well, as long as they win games. This is a results-oriented business. Whether you talk or don’t talk during the offseason doesn’t move the needle; winning games does.

Candidly, the Jets haven’t done a lot of that over the last decade and a half. If the green and white want to make a believer out of Gruden and the rest of the national media, they need to deliver and show that things are changing.

Everyone talks about culture. There is a lot that goes into that buzzword, but the root of it is winning. If you win more games, the culture is better. If you lose games, the culture is worse.
