New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had a game for the ages against the Buffalo Bills, but for all of the wrong reasons.

Justin Fields in Week 1: 0.68 EPA per attempt, his best in 46 career starts. Justin Fields in Week 2: -0.58 EPA per attempt, his worst in 46 career starts,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed on social media.

Fields Was About as Bad as It Gets in Week 2

Fields finished the game 3-of-11 for 27 passing yards. He averaged 2.5 yards per pass.

To put how bad this was into perspective, Bills backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky was forced into the game when Josh Allen got hit in the face by defensive end Micheal Clemons.

On his first pass of the game, he completed a ball for 32 yards. That lone toss resulted in more passing yards than Fields had during the entire contest.

Top Social Media Reactions to Fields’ Subpar Performance

I want Justin Fields to succeed & I loved what I saw from him last week. But I have a feeling all the people tweeting ‘All Justin Fields needed was an organization that believed in him’ after one game are going to be awfully quiet today,” Scott Mason of Play Like a Jet posted on social media.

“Simply AWFUL,” NFL content creator Dov Kleiman posted along with Fields’ stat line.

Justin Fields is not an NFL quarterback,” Jason Whitlock said on X previously Twitter.

Fields Expected to Be a Roller Coaster Ride in 2025

In the season opener, Fields looked like a new man. He was poised, confident, and just outright spectacular from both a passing and rushing perspective.

A week later, Fields didn’t look like he belonged on the field. He couldn’t see the field, the Jets couldn’t move the ball as an offense, and they seemed destined for one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL draft.

Will the real Fields please stand up?

That question will be difficult to answer, especially with the former Ohio State product in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

If Fields is unable to go, the Jets would have to turn to Tyrod Taylor, the only other quarterback on the 53-man roster. The Jets also have undrafted free agent Brady Cook on the practice squad.

Head coach Aaron Glenn couldn’t provide a clear answer on Fields’ status moving forward. Further tests throughout the week will determine the severity of the concussion he suffered at the hands of the Bills in Week 2.
