The New York Jets have hijacked a defender from a division rival.

An inter-AFC East poaching: The Jets are signing LB Mark Robinson off the [New England] Patriots practice squad,” NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero shared on social media on Tuesday, September 23.

At the time of this reported signing, the Jets have not announced a corresponding roster move. When a player is signed off of a practice squad, they automatically join the new team’s 53-man roster. The Jets will have to clear a roster spot when this signing becomes official.

Jets Add Some More Depth at the Linebacker Position

Robinson, 26, entered the league as the No. 225 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The former Ole Miss product spent the first three seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Robinson was released from the Steelers ahead of final roster cuts at the end of this year’s training camp. On August 28, Robinson joined the Patriots‘ practice squad.

In his four-year NFL career to date, Robinson has appeared in 41 games and has made four starts. With those opportunities, Robinson has recorded 48 total tackles, a sack, a quarterback hit, a tackle for loss, and has forced three fumbles.

Gang Green Adds a Core Special Teamer

Robinson is more of a special-teams player than a defensive player.

In his four years in the league, he has played 203 snaps on defense and 656 snaps on special teams, per Pro Football Reference. 96% of those defensive snaps were from his first two seasons in the league.

Top Social Media Reactions to Jets’ Newest Signing

Quincy Williams injured his shoulder on Sunday. Jets add some LB depth,” Brian Costello of the New York Post reacted.

Thought Robinson could fill the 53rd spot on the roster,” Patriots beat reporter Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald said on social media.

The Patriots elevated Robinson for the first three games of the regular season,” Brian Hines of Pats Pulpit revealed on social media.

“Well that’s not good for Quincy’s injury…..,” a fan speculated on social media.

Robinson was out of practice squad elevations after playing in the first three games, so the Patriots would have needed to sign him to the 53 if they wanted to use him again. Instead, he’s off to the Jets,” Zack Cox of the Boston Herald shared.
