Eagles Urged to Reunite With Past 61.5-Sack Pro Bowl Headache

The Philadelphia Eagles look like they may have a problem entering the 2026 season.

Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard has been out with a pectoral injury, not having practiced at all during training camp. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told the media earlier in the week that he is unsure if Greenard will even play to start the season.

That might put the Eagles in a situation where they might have to look outside for a quick fix at edge rusher. General manager Howie Roseman might have an interesting solution that he is familiar with waiting in free agency.

Philadelphia Eagles Could Turn to Former Problem Child to Help Them

Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox shared his list of bargain free agents still available and their ideal landing spots. The Eagles were named as a team for edge rusher Haason Reddick.

“A contract dispute led the Eagles to trade Reddick to the Jets in 2024. A reunion would make sense, as Jonathan Greenard is now dealing with a pectoral injury and could miss the start of the regular season.”

Reddick was a force on the Eagles’ defense for two seasons, racking up 49 quarterback hits and 27 sacks. He made two Pro Bowls before the New York Jets traded for him in 2024. A big reason for the trade was that he wanted to get paid more, and the Eagles didn’t want to give it to him.

His career went off the rails after that, as he spent 2024 with the Jets and last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He racked up just 3.5 sacks in the last two seasons.

Do the Eagles Want to Deal With Haason Reddick Again in 2026?

Reddick added drama to the 2024 season that wasn’t needed after asking for more money. Roseman moved on from him for a reason, and it turned out to be the right move. Philly would win the Super Bowl the very next year.

It appears as though Reddick is in the tail end of his NFL career and could use a place to revive it. The Eagles are a well-run organization that could be a good spot for him to land.

Philly wouldn’t need to start him, as they could roll with Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr. if Greenard is not ready. Reddick could come in as a situational pass rusher on third down to help.

At moments last year with the Buccaneers, the signs were there that Reddick could still play at a high level. He’s had issues with the Jets over his contract and, last year, came in late for the Buccaneers. Reddick might be too much of a headache for the Eagles to deal with right now.
