The newest ESPN 2026 NFL mock draft projected the Pittsburgh Steelers to select QB Drew Allar to work with Aaron Rodgers and Will Howard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made waves during last week’s NFL Draft by selecting Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round. He will join second-year signal-caller Will Howard and veteran backup Mason Rudolph in the quarterback room. Of course, future first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers is still unsigned despite possibly being the team’s most likely starting option for 2026.

On Monday, show host Rich Eisen shared his opinion of what Pittsburgh’s final quarterback room will look like heading into the season. His prediction could set the stage for the organization to part ways with one of its potential veterans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Could Move on From Mason Rudolph

Here is what Eisen had to say via The Rich Eisen Show about what the Steelers’ quarterback room could look like heading into 2026:

“I think it’s going to be (Aaron) Rodgers with two kids…That’s the Green Bay way of doing things. Ron Wolf used to draft a quarterback every year. That’s the idea. Keep it going. Keep that quarterback room going. You never know when you’re going to need one. You never know when you can trade one. Everybody needs one.”

Eisen is, of course, stating that he believes Rodgers will indeed return to play for the Steelers for at least one more run. Then, he will be backed up by Howard and Allar. Eisen also cited NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport‘s report of the Steelers being open to trading Rudolph.

It could be unlikely that Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy would want to keep four quarterbacks on the final roster. If that is the case, the Steelers could run the risk of having a lot of inexperience behind Rodgers if he were to get hurt. On the other hand, few offensive coaches know the quarterback position better than McCarthy. However McCarthy addresses the position moving forward, Steelers fans should trust him.

Aaron Rodgers Could Mentor Both Will Howard and Drew Allar

GettyAaron Rodgers is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw 400+ touchdown passes and post a passer rating above 100.

At a minimum, Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game. The four-time MVP and Super Bowl MVP has played in the NFL for half of his life. He has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in his storied career.

Perhaps the greatest Green Bay Packer of all time, Rodgers learned how to become great from McCarthy, who coached him for 13 seasons on Lombardi Avenue (2006-2018). Furthermore, Rodgers has already helped mentor another current NFL starter in Jordan Love. Love has led the Packers to the playoffs in all three years as the team’s starter since taking over for Rodgers in 2023.

Rodgers now has the chance to mentor both Howard and Allar should he return for at least one more season. The soon-to-be 43-year-old recorded 25 total touchdowns and posted a passer rating of 94.8 in 2025 en route to guiding the team to its first AFC North title in five years.
