On Thursday July 31, 2025, United States President Donald Trump announced that San Francisco 49ers superstar EDGE rusher Nick Bosa would join the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition For American Schoolchildren.
President Trump recently signed an executive order to revitalize the council. Other NFL members of the council will include Kansas City Chiefs K Harrison Butker, Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, and retired star Lawrence Taylor. Golfer Bryson DeChambeau is set to lead the council.
Bosa has been an outspoken supporter of President Trump in the past, even wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat after the 49ers win over the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, 2024. The NFL fined him for wearing the hat.
Butker is also a notably outspoken conservative NFL player. Barkley made headlines for playing golf with President Trump in April 2025 but does not discuss his politics publicly.
What Is The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition For American Schoolchildren?
Bosa, Butker, DeChambeau, Barkley, Tagovailoa, Taylor and their team on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition For American Schoolchildren will be tasked with creating “school-based programs that reward excellence in physical education and develop criteria for a Presidential Fitness Award.”
The council will also attempt to find ways to mitigate obesity amongst children in the United States.
As part of his executive order, President Trump also brought back the Presidential Fitness Test.
The Presidential Fitness Test dates back to 1956. It was developed because Americans were worried that their Physical Strength was inadequate compared to Europeans, according to Fox News.
President Barack Obama retired it after the 2012-2013 school year and replaced it with the FitnessGram over concerns that it had a narrow approach. The FitnessGram, by comparison, was implemented because Obama believed it had a “comprehensive approach” to student wellness.
Bosa On NFL Top 100
In other recent Nick Bosa news, the DE was named No. 57 on the NFL’s Top 100 list.
The NFL Top 100 is an annual list of the Top 100 players as voted on by other NFL players. This is Bosa’s fourth straight year on the list, but he dropped 30 spots from No. 27 in 2024.
Bosa is looking to rebound in 2025 from what was a bit of a tough season in 2024. Injuries limited him to only 14 games, and he had less than 10 sacks for the first time since 2020.
He still made the Pro Bowl. But by the standards of a guy who was the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and racked up 18.5 sacks, last season won’t cut it.
The 49ers defensive line looks a lot different around Bosa heading into the 2025 season. It will be interesting to analyze if his teammates are helping him succeed or holding him back.
The 49ers undoubtedly have a lot of new talent on the DLine in Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins, CJ West and Bryce Huff. But three of those players are rookies and Huff also had a down season in 2024.
But Bosa is still the best and most physically imposing defensive linemen in the league, so if he’s healthy, he should wreak more havoc on opposing quarterbacks.
49ers fans, what do you think about Nick Bosa teaming up with President Donald Trump? Do you think Bosa will have a bounce back season?
