Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and his fiancée Katie Hoofnagle tied the knot in early April, and the two had a star-studded guest list for their wedding with a bevy of players from the NFL and beyond. Now, Katie is giving her first interview after the wedding, and it’s with one of their wedding guests, Hailee Steinfeld, the wife of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Sam and Katie got engaged in July 2025, when Darnold proposed to Hoofnagle on the beach in Dana Point, California, and they announced the news on social media. Katie took to social media again to share that they were officially married after the big day, showing off an image of her wedding ring with the caption, “I have a husband now, btw.”
Now, Katie is opening up about the big day and what it meant to her to walk down the isle with Sam. So, let’s meet the wife of the Seattle Seahawks’ fearless leader.

In Hailee Steinfeld’s “Beau Society” newsletter on Friday, April 17, Katie talked to Hailee about her wedding. Hailee is also a newlywed, stating, “This was our first time attending a wedding as husband and wife (and mom and dad), and everything hit differently. The love in the air felt palpable and reminiscent. And I actually don’t think there’s anything more fun than being at a wedding with your husband. 10/10 recommend.”
The first question was how Sam and Katie met. “We were introduced through a mutual friend at a bar in Charlotte, North Carolina, where we were both living and working at the time,” Katie explained.
She also said that she was surprised when Sam proposed, even though she knew it was coming. “Sam caught me off guard the day he actually proposed,” she said.
When asked what she and Sam wanted out of their wedding day, she replied, “Sam and I have always said how fortunate we are to be surrounded by the most incredible friends and family. When we made our guest list, it was about 235 people, and every single person on that list was an important individual.” She added, “We wanted to have a Friday wedding so that we could spend the entire weekend with our guests.”
Kate continued, “Our wedding was in San Diego, which was a ‘destination wedding’ for the vast majority of our friends. We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to make a trip out of it and spend Saturday together decompressing by the pool.”

So, how down-to-earth is Katie? She actually bought her wedding dress off the rack.
“Anthropologie wedding dresses are sized in the standard women’s sizing format, so I purchased my normal size and had very minimal alterations,” she said. “This was an ideal situation given our short window between engagement and wedding, as well as being in Seattle for the majority of the wedding planning process.”
Katie also opened up about something special and unique she and Sam did for their wedding.
“Sam and I did our vows twice,” she said. “Once over coffee before the day started, and again at our ceremony in front of everybody. I felt so present and at peace standing up there during the ceremony, having already had the opportunity to say mine and hear Sam’s.”
