The Seattle Seahawks made a late move for a veteran tight end.

NFL free agency is approaching the two-month mark, but the Seattle Seahawks announced a late move for a new tight end. Sam Darnold has a new veteran playmaker who will be competing for a roster spot.

The Seahawks announced the addition of former Houston Texans tight end Harrison Bryant. There could be more veteran moves on the way in Seattle as teams are no longer penalized for signings by losing potential compensatory picks in the 2027 NFL draft at this point in the offseason calendar.

Seattle revealed that the team now has five tight ends on the roster. The Seahawks still have eight open roster spots remaining ahead of training camp.

“The Seahawks now have 83 players on the roster, not including undrafted rookie free agents who will sign ahead of rookie minicamp this week,” Seahawks.com’s Ari Horton detailed in an April 29, 2026, story titled, “Seahawks Sign Tight End Harrison Bryant.” “Seattle can have up to 91 players on the roster including international pathway player, Federico Maranges.”

Here’s what you need to know about all the Seahawks news, including the latest roster moves.

New Seahawks TE Harrison Bryant Has Played in 90 NFL Games, Including 37 Starts

In the hours following the NFL draft, Seattle has been focused on signing undrafted free agents. Bryant brings with him a much more established resume that could give the playmaker some staying power.

The tight end has played in 90 games over his NFL career, including 37 starts. Bryant played in 12 games for the Texans last season but was used sparingly in the offense as a weapon. The tight end’s best trait could be his blocking ability.

Bryant has posted 100 catches for 884 yards and 10 touchdowns during his six-year NFL career. The Cleveland Browns selected Bryant in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft with the No. 115 overall pick.

Seahawks QB Sam Darnold Has Had Quite an Offseason

It has been quite a year for Darnold as the Seahawks quarterback has added multiple rings. Months after winning the Super Bowl, Darnold married longtime girlfriend Katie Hoofnagle on April 3.

“We had so much fun!” the couple told People. “We wanted our guests to dance the night away and from the second they entered we had our band playing to set the energy and it never stopped!”

Darnold has spent recent years proving that he is capable of being a starting NFL quarterback. This marks the first offseason where Darnold is returning to the same team since 2022.

Harrison Bryant Will Be Competing for a Roster Spot as Part of a Talented Seahawks Tight End Group

As for Bryant, the veteran is joining a talented tight end group with Elijah Arroyo, AJ Barner, Nick Kallerup and Eric Saubert already on the roster. Seattle also added Wisconsin tight end Lance Mason as an undrafted free agent.

“That’s the main selling point with Bryant,” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler told ClevelandBrowns.com following the 2020 NFL draft. “This is a player that understands route depth. He understands how to run and get separation.”

Time will tell if Bryant can cement a spot on the Seahawks roster during training camp.
