Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe could find himself on another roster if he loses the backup QB job to Drew Lock, and the Detroit Lions seem a likely contender for his services. There remains skepticism about the current backup quarterback situation in Detroit with Josh Dobbs and Luke Altmyer as the only options on the roster.
The Seahawks appear content with their quarterback room as Sam Darnold continues to take charge as a leader for the organization. Lock has built a home in Seattle, but the coaches and front office also adore what he provides. For Milroe, he still plays like he needs time to develop. The team is unlikely to give him many opportunities in the NFL unless there are injuries at quarterback.
That being said, Milroe still presents some upside for the Seattle Seahawks. NFL franchises are intrigued by his athletic profile, and his ability to run is an asset that needs to be untapped. While the Lions may be able to be patient with him as well, the Seahawks are arguably in a better position to do so with another reliable backup quarterback.

Jalen Milroe will be an attractive option for many teams needing help at quarterback, but the Seahawks should not be in a rush to trade him.
Despite what other teams may want to do at quarterback, the Seahawks should not trade Milroe just because they can. Depth at arguably the most important position in sports is never a bad thing. As they say in the MLB, you can never have too much starting pitching. Yet, thankfully the Seattle Seahawks do not have to piggyback quarterbacks.
There’s no reason to ship off Milroe just because he needs time to develop, and the Seahawks should want a respectable offer if they really want to entertain trading him. Other backup quarterbacks in the NFL command at least a second round pick given if they have potential. The San Francisco 49ers were asking for that compensation for Mac Jones.
Milroe Still Has Plenty of Room to Grow
Even though people expected more from Milroe at this point, that is not a reason to give up on him with where he is placed on the depth chart.
Against the Dallas Cowboys, Milroe only completed five out of eight pass attempts for 36 yards. He also added 36 yards on the ground. The Seattle Seahawks failed to display much offensively in their first preseason game, and Milroe’s indecision proved to be a massive reason why. Yet, he is still a young player, and trading him to the Detroit Lions could be a hasty decision.
With how much better the offense looks under Darnold and Lock, the organization has no reason to put Milroe in a situation to fail. Another organization may want to use him as an immediate number 2 option, and if the Seahawks let him go, they could regret not having a developmental option on their roster. As they approach the decision to pay Darnold, it is always prudent to have options at quarterback.
