On Friday, the Seattle Seahawks announced the signing of linebacker Power Echols to the 90-man roster. In a corresponding move, the organization waived fellow linebacker Joseph Vaughn. Echols played linebacker in the 2025 offseason for the Chicago Bears. However, he failed to make the roster out of training camp eventually signing with the practice squad of the Houston Texans.
Echols played college football at the University of North Carolina. In four seasons, he totaled 307 combined tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, 9 passes defended, and 3 forced fumbles. As a four year contributor, he was a vital part of their defense. However, he became an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft, signing inevitably with the Chicago Bears.
Unfortunately, his athletic profile gives him an uphill battle at success in the NFL. He’s undersized at his position, ranking in the fifth percentile of height for NFL linebackers. He also ranks in the 44th percentile of weight for NFL linebackers among players who have tested at the NFL Combine.
Vaughn signed with the Seattle Seahawks recently on last Saturday, but he now enters free agency again obviously.
Seattle Seahawks Sign Power Echols to their 90-Man Roster
The Seattle Seahawks make a change to their linebacker room ahead of the first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Echols has an uphill battle of making the Seattle Seahawks roster as the linebacker room is incredibly deep. Echols operates mainly as an inside linebacker, so he will be competing with All-Pro Ernest Jones IV, Tyrice Knight, Patrick O’Connell, and Chris Paul Jr. for a place on the roster at inside linebacker. Jones, Knight, and O’Connell seem likely to make the roster given their experience and production with the organization.
However, perhaps Echols could become a member of the practice squad in the regular season if he shows something to the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks play their first NFL Preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on August 15th at Lumen Field. Its the only home game for the Seahawks on the NFL Preseason schedule before the home opener on September 9th.

Part of what makes this section of the NFL season so fascinating are the unknown names who get chances to make the 53-man roster.
While Echols is mainly an unknown name for NFL fans, that is what makes the NFL Preseason such an interesting occasion. Most of the players people will watch throughout this period will be forgotten, but the hope of making an NFL roster creates for some compelling narratives. Especially with the Seattle Seahawks on HBO’s Hard Knocks, the success of these types of players can create a narrative arc.
The reality is that Echols probably will not make the 53-man roster, but the Seahawks always have a next-man up mentality. Injuries have plagued the Seattle Seahawks linebacker room previously, so if Echols makes the practice squad, there’s always a chance the team may call his number as a promotional candidate during the regular season.
