The Washington Commanders’ official schedule for the 2026 NFL season will be released at 8 p.m. ET tonight. As the clock ticks closer to the full drop, leaks have begun to seep through the cracks. It was previously revealed that the Commanders would face the Indianapolis Colts in London in Week 4. Now their season-opening matchup has been leaked as well.
“The Eagles open their season at home vs. the Commanders in an NFC East showdown,” according to a rumor Jordan Schultz reported per his sources.
This game is rumored to start at 4:25 p.m. ET. If true, the entire NFC East is clashing on opening week as the Giants and Cowboys face off in Sunday Night Football.
The Commanders haven’t faced the Eagles in a season opener since 2020. That was the last time the Eagles lost a Week One game, as they’ve rattled off five straight victories since. Starting the season against the reigning NFC East champions immediately forces Jayden Daniels into a tough test.
While Daniels has beaten the Eagles before, he has never beaten them at home. As Washington enters a pivotal third year in the Daniels-Quinn-Peters regime, they will have an opportunity to jump ahead of perhaps their biggest foe.
Jayden Daniels Loves Playing Against The Philadelphia Eagles

GettyDaniels is 1-2 in his career against the Eagles, with his lone win coming at home when he tossed five touchdowns against them in Week 16 of the 2024 NFL season.
In February, Jayden Daniels fell into some slightly controversial waters after a quote was released of him stating that he “loves” Eagles fans.
The full quote was from an interview on NFL Media Row, where Daniels stated, “I love Eagles fans. They embody what Philly is. They bring it.”
The quote out of context makes Daniels look like he’s hyping up the Commanders’ rival. Within the context of the full interview, it’s clear that it’s not the case.
The Eagles fanbase was brought up in a game that required Daniels to answer “yes” or “no” based on a statement. Daniels answered “yes” in response to the statement, “Eagles’ fans are the most obnoxious in sports.”
He then followed up his response with the quote that has gone viral. But following his answer, he elaborates on why he said that.
“Being able to go out there and play against them, it’s kind of just that thing. Their environment is kind of like the closest thing you can get to a college environment.”
When asked if playing against them fuels him, Daniels responded, “Yeah, for sure. If you go out there, you could beat Philly in Philly, that’s a different type…You know, as we’re rivals with them in the NFC, in the East, so I love playing against them.”
Beating the Eagles on their own turf would certainly commence the season on the right note. Daniels would not only check off a box on his list but also a win for a team committed to a bounce-back season.
